lost communication.. cant load firmware*(SOLVED)*

Post by cwdodson88 »

MS1 v3.0 was running fine with 029y4 firmware. I've been using msdroid to tune and was working well until the other day. I lost connection over bluetooth, and now when plugged in to my laptop I have no comms either. I loopbacked my cable and it was good, portcheck is not seeing my ecu, and hyperterminal wont loop back when plugged into ecu.

Any Ideas on what to try next?

I also tried plugging it into my stim, and only get a power led, stim powers up, but doesnt get any action.

EDIT* solved title.

this is what I get when trying to load firmware

If you are upgrading from standard Megasquirt code you will need to
use the boot jumper soon. If you are upgrading from Megasquirtnspark,
DualTable, MegasquirtnEDIS or an earlier MSnS-extra this program
will do it for you.
.
If you are unsure then press Y to quit - press Q
.
.
.
. Please read the README file!!!
.
Are you upgrading from standard Megasquirt code [Y,N,Q]?N
.
This should count up to 1700+ lines
.
src\download.exe -c9 msns-extra.s19
MS Download 1.10
Download failed:
Expected response "
Boot>",
but received this "".
Press any key to continue . . .

what ever that means

Try using the boot jumper and re-loading the firmware.

That's with the boot jumper installed. I guess I'll resolder the connections and see

Next step, make sure the PCB isn't shorted out. To check for a short in the Megasquirt PCB, power up the Megasquirt on a Stimulator or on the car and check the following points for voltage with a multimeter.

You should find the same voltage as the battery voltage on the following points: S12, S12C, the center legs of Q9 and Q12, the left (non-banded) end of D3, the left leg of U5, and the left (banded) end of D9.

You should have 5 volts at the following points: S5, the two +5V holes in the proto area, the right (non-banded) end of D9, the right leg of U5, the left (banded) end of D19, and pins 1, 20, and 31 of the CPU.

Let me know where you find the correct voltages, and where you find the wrong ones.

Well, I'm definitely a newb to all of this. I rechecked all my voltages and they were all way low on the stim. But when in the car, all was well. After 4 hours of fiddling with it on the stim and about 5 minutes in the car, I now have firmware. I wasn't getting comms on the stim due to lack of decent battery power. Batteries gave off 9v for about 60 seconds and then started dropping quickly. Note to self, get a 12v power supply. All is back up and running, and drove the car to work for my 13th datalog run today! :yeah!:

Next step, get the fueling side going and lose the carbs!
