Is the MS3 wiring for the relays correct in the diagram?

Post by 242ATL »

Just about to wire up my ms3.

This may be a total newb question, but I am looking at the main wiring diagram and the section for the main and fuel pump relays just looks... well something doesn't look right.

In the diagram the main relay gets 12v switched at pin 85, and pin 87 gets the direct 12v feed from the battery instead of pin 30.

I am used to wiring up ms1 units where pin 85 is ground and pin 87 is the output and pin 30 is the direct 12v feed.... Why is the relay wiring different for ms3 or is this just another way to wire up a relay?

Many thanks.

Mike

There is no polarity, 87 and 30 are the switched power side, you can wire it either way.

You are correct Mike, the MS3 relay is not correct. Pin 30 is the 12V feed, pin 87 is the NO (normally open) contact. In practice, you can switch both, but personally I always use the correct way. This way you'll still know how you wired it up in a couple of years :)
Also, some relays have a pin 87a which is a NC contact which could cause some headscratches if you wire that up wrong.
So yes, the diagram is not correct and you should always use pin30 towards the source (battery).

I'd disagree that it is "incorrect" but I do agree that it would be better to show it the other way around.
