Megasquirt 3 & ms3x compatible enclosure in the UK

Post by SordFish »

Are there any UK based suppliers for a case that would fit an ms3 & ms3x I would like to avoid buying from the US as it would cost a small fortune.

Have you tried Maplins, I'm thinking the extruded aluminium Hammond ones. A guy here used them on an earlier Megasquirt.
Also CPC is just down the road from you in Preston, they might have some project boxes, plus there's always Mouser mail order, possibly fleaBay too.

Are the import duties that bad, coming from the US? I'd have thought with the strength of the Pound versus the USD it'd be cheap to order that direction.

I'd be lucky to have change from £50 and when a hammond case is £16 its not worth the extra

The Hammond cases are metric. The Megasquirt PCBs are imperial and don't fit without a lot of filing.

Sometimes it's not import duties that are bad, but the set-up fees. ie : if you order something that cost let say 40$, you shoud have to pay 6$ for duty + 35$ for set-up fees (in France) :-(

Probably similar to a handling fee.

In the UK when you import stuff that has been sent through USPS it will arrive at UK Customs and then be processed by "Parcelforce".
Parcelforce charge £12 for handling the customs matters. Then there's the actual import duty (circa 6%) and VAT (20%) on the value of the goods.

James is right. This is something similar... In France circa is 3.5%.
