82 Datsun 280z MS2 LS1 coils and AF ratio Jim stim

Post by Turbofreakdotcom »

I've searched last couple nights to verify my assembly for the MS2 V3 board with 3.3.2 firmware for use of LS coils so I wanted to make sure I am in the right direction since I am not quite clear with the info I have found.
It will be running the cam wheel from DIY aytotune for 82-83 280z 6 cylinder distributor. For ease, we will run wasted spark on the LS coils. I like the direction of the TC4427AEPA and 2x 15R 1/8W resistors as the assembly states at 5.3.0.3, but this appears to be for 6 sequential spark connections. Example , can I attach one wire from R26 to both IN A and IN B of the TC4427 to fire 2 LS coils at the same time for wasted setup and use only R26, R27, and R29?

Also, the AF ratio only jumps from 14.7, 16, and 12 when I adjust the O2 pot on Jim Stim with the WB jumper on. ADC6 and ADC7 reads from 0 to 933. Does this sound like an issue with the assembly? Volt meter reads 0 to 5 volts on Jim Stim.

Did you calibrate AFR tables?

Too simple. Guess I haven't had to set that up in a long time on my other unit. Now I just need to confirm the LS coil usage on wasted spark.

LS coils only take a small current to drive them, so you only need to build three logic coil driver circuits and can run two coils from each channel.

Great to know. I'll order (2) TC4427AEPA and (3) 15R 1/8W resistors for this circuit. Thank you for your help.

I didn't ask, does the resistor value change since one logic channel will have two coils on it? I ask since I am familiar with doubling resistance values when running two COPs on single channel on regular 2 wire coils.

The resistor is there to protect the MS power supply against a short; the LS coils REALLY don't need much juice.
