Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
You have configured your ignition settings to use "Poll Level" - that's probably not what you want for your cam signal. Using "Rising" or "Falling".
You might be able to get Poll Level to work if you play around with the "Check at tooth#" setting, try 34.

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
Thanks james.
Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
Well, i tried rising and falling with no success. I switched back to poll level, low, 32 and cam fault stayed out. But the composite log of my signals is a mess again. So just for the hell of it i back probed on the CAS harness for both my signals. My wave form matched my waveforms on the supplied composite almost identically. Im starting to think im hit or miss on this CAS and its time for a new one. Any thoughts?

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
As you said, the cam signal is a complete mess. It isn't going to work like that.

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
I'm figuring that. Before I condemn it I'm going to try a redundant ground from the sensor to the cylinder head.
Also. What is the purpose of the jumper wire from s12 to tachselect with the 1k ohm resistor in it?

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
The optical sensor is grounded or floating. Similar to a hall sensor. See: http://www.msextra.com/doc/pdf/html/MS3 ... .4-72.html and the following page.c/sspeed wrote:I'm figuring that. Before I condemn it I'm going to try a redundant ground from the sensor to the cylinder head.

Don't ground the sensor to the cylinder head. Ground it to sensor ground.

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
Thanks james. With the pull up in the harness I won't need the 5 volts from above the proto area.
In the sr20 trigger wheel page it says you need a 1k resistor from s12 to tachselect...is that a necessity or can I just do section 5.2.3 without the built in pull up.
I've run all my sensor grounds through the sensor ground circuit at the tps. Double checked and they are good. My sensor must be damaged goods.
Thanks again .

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
Double check that you've set 2.5V at "ZC testpoint" on the MS3X card and that the JP7 jumper is fitted.

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
Correct that's set at 2.5 volts and jp7 is jumpered.

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
So what's changed from the very clean composite log you posted a few days ago? Loose connection?

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
Maybe. I'm going over all that now. It was odd. Hardware wise I didn't touch anything. Did a cold crank without furl or spark after changing poll level to rising and there it was. Going to pull my bulkhead connector and check all my connections there.
Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
I had trouble for quite a while trying to get full sync with a similar set up. Im using the DIY disc in a GTiR SR20. After a bit of experimenting with the Check tooth # I now get full sync with Poll level checking @ tooth #9.
Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
Thanks for the advice. Right now I'm sorting out this messed up composite log.
Dasman56 out of curiosity how did you wire your board and are you using the 5v pull up from tps vref to both your signal wires at the cas?

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
I'm running a 3.57 board and msx. I have set it up exactly as suggested on the diy setup page for the 12-1 trigger wheel and full sequential . I don't have any other mods and I have had good results. Hope you get it sorted.
Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
Well. Im still having trouble with my cam and crank patterns. I've attached my current msq and a composite log. Here's my current setup:
Brand new nissan CAS
Brand new 12-1 trigger wheel, my old one had a kink around the center hub and it seemed to be a bit wavy.
MS3/MS3X
tachselect to vrin
tsel to vrout
1k resistor from s12 to tachselect
JP7 installed
330 ohm 1/4w resistor from tps 5v ref to CAS crank signal
330 ohm 1/4w resistor from tps 5v ref to CAS cam signal
any other ideas greatly appreciated.

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
Still a lot of noise on the signals. Adjusted VR conditioners with no positive results.

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
The above is not correct.c/sspeed wrote: 1k resistor from s12 to tachselect

330 ohm 1/4w resistor from tps 5v ref to CAS crank signal
330 ohm 1/4w resistor from tps 5v ref to CAS cam signal
That means you've got two sets of pullups on the inputs.
Either install the internal pullups OR the external pullups, not both.

Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
Thanks. I knew I had something wrong.
Re: ms3/ms3x diy sr20det trigger wheel
Kinda have this narrowed down. When I spin the CAS in a drill at around 650 rpm I get a perfect signal, when I spin it between 150-250 rpm the signal is terrible. My starter is only turning the engine over at 250rpm so my signal is terrible. Im under the impression that this is normal cranking speed for my setup. Can anyone confirm this?
