Tach & Ignition woes
MS3 V3.57 Assembled by DIY
Saturn SL1 w/ OBDI ignition coil packs
Current Condition:
The coils/ICM currently have good crank signal, +12v, & 5 volt bypass.
I have confirmed that the bypass circuit is working [plugs fire when engine is cranked]
The crank signal for the MS3 will be the Hall signal coming from the ICM.
Pin 24 [Wht] is connected to Ref Hi from ICM, and Pin 2 is connected to common Grd.
The IGN advance wire [Brn, pin 36] will be controlled by the MS3.
Questions
1) I currently have the MS3 configured as seen below:
- Is this the correct configuration for this equipment?
2) In tunerstudio, what Spark Mode should I be using?
3) In Tunerstudio, what Spark Hardware in Use should be used?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Tach & Ignition woes
Does your module decode the 7X wheel or pass the raw 7X signal on to the ECU?

Re: Tach & Ignition woes
It takes the raw 7x [VR signal] and decodes it into a Hall signal

If its any help, here is a video [with lots of confusion, haha] of what I am seeing from the Ref Hi from the ICM with the DVOM:

Re: Tach & Ignition woes
Here is the ICM wiring for your reference. Ref Hi should be creating a 5v square wave when the engine is cranking:

Re: Tach & Ignition woes
The CMP output from the ICM isn't identified in that diagram. Which wire is it?

Re: Tach & Ignition woes
The CMP/Hall output is the Ref Hi wire.

Re: Tach & Ignition woes
So you are connecting the CMP signal to the MS tachin? I don't see how that can work; I'll have to read up on the Saturn ICM.

Re: Tach & Ignition woes
I got fed up with it, got under the car, wired up the MS for VR sensing, and removed the 1k resistor from R57. It'll read RPM now. I'll come back if I have issues with RPM break up.
