turn the noise filtering off, make sure the pots r52 & r56 are both full ccw give them 7 turns to confirm this while you are doing this make sure jp1 is across 1&2 and that j1 is set to 3&4.
usually bmw vr sensors the black wire is the vr+ and the yellow is the vr-

I did install a new crank sensor and tried it with the polarity reversed, no go, but I did get it running 
A resistor was needed between the crank sensor wire and the MS ECU. The stock bmw IAC valve is causing a very high idle so will install a stepper IAC valve from a 4.0L jeep instead.
