MSPNP2 T8590 Mess
MSPNP2 T8590 V1.2
Firmware: MS2/Extra 3.4.2 release 20160421
Hi,
I recently purchased a used MSNPNP2 and I am regretting it. Before hooking it up to my 16V 4AG, I wanted to go over the circuit board to make sure that everything looked fine. The previous owner said he ran COPs and ITBs on his 16V 4AG. I currently just want to run my completely stock 16V 4AG using the MSNPN2 map feature. Well, when I opened it, I found this mess. I would like to know if you guys can tell me what doesn't belong in there and what I should do to put it back to factory spec. I don't think the person knew what he was doing. I admit I messed up and should have just bought a DIYPNP and did it right myself. =(
Below are pics of the overall unit and close-up of the things that doesn't look right:

Probably need to have a read from this assembly guide. https://www.diyautotune.com/support/tec ... -assembly/
Find the Manuals up top under Quick links: Manuals.

Re: MSPNP2 T8590 Mess
That is for a DIYPNP; this is an MSPNP that has been modified for some reason. That is not normally something we recommend. The only non-factory wires are the orange wires (they are used to give the installer an option for sequential injection). Everything else has been some sort of modification by the previous owner.slow_hemi6 wrote:Probably need to have a read from this assembly guide. https://www.diyautotune.com/support/tec ... -assembly/

Re: MSPNP2 T8590 Mess
A bit "off topic", maybe, but I'm confused as I try to follow along and learn: I see "DIYAUTOTUNE.COM" in the silk-screen of that PCB, yet it is MSPNP and not DIYPNP? What is the difference, is this a "hybrid" with mainboard from DIY and daughter from elsewhere?
Obviously, I am not familiar with those products, but the mods shown in the pictures don't look terribly ugly to me; I think that unit will be quite usable once sorted out.

Re: MSPNP2 T8590 Mess
Easy to find the answers...
MSPNP2 = plug and play ECU - no need to venture inside the case
https://www.diyautotune.com/shop/mspro- ... gen2-ecus/
DIYPNP = basis for making your own plug and plug - requires you to wire up inside the case
https://www.diyautotune.com/shop/megasq ... ts/diypnp/
Both use the Microsquirt-module on an adapter board.

DIYAUTOTUNE is simply the name of the company that sells various products. Have a look at their website.billr wrote:A bit "off topic", maybe, but I'm confused as I try to follow along and learn: I see "DIYAUTOTUNE.COM" in the silk-screen of that PCB, yet it is MSPNP and not DIYPNP? The MSPNP is a fully built solution that requires no modification.
The DIYPNP is a similar ecu, but comes in a kit that you solider yourself.
What this is an MSPNP, that for some reason someone decided to custom modify.

Re: MSPNP2 T8590 Mess
Okay, I get it now. They are both DIYautotune products, hence their name on the MSPNP board.
Re: MSPNP2 T8590 Mess
Thanks for shining some light on my MSPNP2. I have only found the schematic for the Microsquirt V1.2 PCB but not the lower (red) PCB.
What PCB do MSPNP 2 units use and is there another MS product that uses the same PCB?
Thanks

It is a specific PCB for your application.fiveten wrote:What PCB do MSPNP 2 units use and is there another MS product that uses the same PCB?

Re: MSPNP2 T8590 Mess
I dunno the PNP range, but the mods could be just that or repairs to burnt tracks etc. Or a mixture of both.

Ha, I didn't see before that there are three PCBs in there! Still learning...
Re: MSPNP2 T8590 Mess
Thanks for the help everyone. In addition to everyone's help and the schematic (http://www.megasquirtpnp.com/docs/mspnp ... &isModel=2), I also compared it to my friend's MSPNP 2. The outcome: I got rid of all the black wires and kept the orange jumper wires (from factory). Starting with the base map, the car turned on and idled. I just need to tune it a little more so I can get it driving safely.

Re: MSPNP2 T8590 Mess
The orange jumper wires were put on there because we realized that customers might want all four injector channels brought out after the board had already been made. The later V1.3 main board brings these out to an expansion port on the back, getting rid of the need for the jumpers.
I'm not sure why the customer added the black wires. Apparently they were an effort to get coil on plug output - without contacting our tech support, apparently, since there's no need to add extra wires to do this.
