anybody squirted a 01 - 03 miata?

I need to know if you had any issues with operating the speedometer and tachometer. Mines a 97 but I am wanting to use a 02 cluster I have but it has a microprocessor in the cluster where a 97 did not.

I have done a number of 01-05s All with MSPnP Pro ECUs and they all worked well. Biggest difference with the NB chassis cluster wise is immobilizer and the fact that VSS is purely electronic. No speedo cable.

Im planning to use a dakota.digital sgi. Im consixering trying the gps unit just because I havent tried one. Im sure the sgi5 with a speed sensor in the trans would work too. Mines a 97 so I dont yet have a speed sensor.

Tachometer is 12V, speedometer is not ECU controlled.

I was fishing for info on which connecor pin to run the tach because my mitchell wiring diagram doesnt list which pin on the cluster is the tach.

Nothing extra required to install the nb cluster. Only the sender in the transmission. Other than that it's just a rewire of the cluster connector. Nothing major.

Will the sender from the 01 to 05 just bolt right into the 97 tranny with no other mods? The reason I was gonna use the dakota digital unit was because the ms3 needs a conditioned signal. Im thinking ahead

Yes, the sender will bolt right in. It has 2 wires, yellow goes to 1M and orange to 2M on the NB instrument cluster.
2L of the instrument cluster is a conditioned Vss output and normally goes to 3T on the 01-03 ECU.

One thing, make sure that the color matches your rear end or the speedo will be off.

Awesome ...so all i need is a speed sensor then. Glad I asked because that saves me a couple hundred bux for a interface I dont need. Thanks a lot :yeah!:

Lucky.
Can you not run the gearbox speedo out into the MS3?
Then use the MS3 to scale appropriately for the dash?

Just a thought.... awesome having VSS in MS.

No you can't, it's a VR signal and there's no spare conditioner on board. The instrument cluster has a VR conditioner and outputs it back to the ecu.

Absolutely, working great for me...Was the NB cluster white.face.gauges worth the.investment of the rewire of the cluster connectors.....in hindsight its a tossup but since.I had the.cluster for free and i bought the speed sensor for 75.00 shipped and my time really didnt cost material dollars...it was a.good and reliable way to get a.vss signal to the MS3 and it was an improvement over my NA base model cluster. Im pretty happy with it actually but it was a good bit of work for sure.
