MS2 3.0 FETS

Post by gjestico »

I see my latest MS2 3.0 kit comes with FDPF3860T FET's for the injector drivers Q1 and Q5.
Are these "avalanche rated" ? There is a note on the schematic that the active flyback clamp circuitry can be omitted if so.

The Avalanche information is shown on the datasheet. https://www.fairchildsemi.com/datasheet ... F3860T.pdf

Seems like there are 2 questions here.
1. Is the FDPF3860T an equivalent replacement for the IRFIZ34?, Yes seems fine.
2. Is it a good idea to omit the Active Clamp components?, No I would not omit the clamp using either the original or this mosfet. What is to be gained by reducing protection to the mosfet?
