Heat sink thickness, standard MS2 full kit

Post by retired »

I've just received a full MS2 kit from a friend - which I offered to assemble for him - and the heat sink is visibly thinner than two kits I have built in the past (one full kit, and a partial kit bought back when the heat sink was included in a partial kit).

Previous thicknesses were just over 3mm, this one is just under 2mm.

All, three (ie, my previous two and this friend's one) were sourced from DIYAutotune.

Does anyone know if there is a reason for the difference ???

My own two make little use of the heat capacity of the heat sink as the high power stuff (injector and ignition) are on either one of Jean's boards (with heat sink tabs bolted to the case lid) or in a separate box, so the only heat load is the voltage regulator, but this build will be full PWM driving eight low z injectors with quite low resistances so the standard MosFets, flyback transistors and current sense resistors will be putting a fair bit of heat into the heatsink.

Is this new thin one going to be OK ???

I wouldn't be worried about the thinner heatsink.

If you're really worried about it, you can get TO-220 heat sinks to add to the build.
