C15 399-4202-ND polarity

Post by cue340 »

MS3 kit

Step 5. Install the capacitor C15 {399-4202-ND, 0.001 µF, 102 marking}. This goes near the MOV1 you just installed, between it and "Grippo" in the copyright notice. Note that the '1' night be obscured by a via.

Hi there, I have just started my first kit, the C15 is the first capacitor to go on the board. My understanding is that there should be a polarity on a capacitor. This one doesn't seem to have one, also there is no marking on the board to show which way to install it and nothing is said in the instructions about the polarity of this part.

I searched this forum and found nothing, Hoping someone can help me with this

thanks

Okay I have worked out that these small µF caps do not have any polarity. This page was helpful to me.

Apologies for a super basic question

Do note there are a couple of tantalum caps that look pretty similar to the ceramics (but bigger) which are polarised. Polarised caps usually have different length leads as well as a marking on the body. The markings on the tantalum ones are a bit difficult to read.
