Setup:
MS2 - 3.3.1a
FTDI USB 6'cable
Samsung Tab 3
Works fine with the engine off, but loses connectivity as soon as a I start the engine. Won't connect with the engine running no matter what I try. I am able to connect with MS Droid and Shadow Dash with the engine not running. Anyone seen this before? I have the EFI Analytics BT adapter ordered, so may be a moot point, but was hoping to get this going over USB and do some logging tomorrow since the weather is decent of this time of year.
TIA

It sounds like noise.
What sort of 6' USB cable are you using? If the USB part is that long, it needs to be very well shielded or the EM noise generated by your running engine will cause drops.

Sorry, the USB OTG cable is about 3". The other cable is this:

That same cable works fine with TS on my Mac with the engine running. Not sure if the Tab's USB is more sensitive to noise though??
Thanks for the quick input!

Re: Shadow Dash - USB disconnects when engine starts
If the same cable works fine with TS, it _should_ be ok....
So it sounds like it is either the OTG or the tablet itself picking up the noise. The OTG adapters usually look like a problem, but normally I have not seen many issues.
USB connectivity on the tablets usually seems as solid as the PC, but even there I did run across 1 laptop with a micro USB port that seemed to pick up noise terrible using the same cabling I use all the time.
Perhaps it is worth a try of a different OTG adapter.

Re: Shadow Dash - USB disconnects when engine starts
Thanks for the reply. May be a moot point. I just realized you guys are only a couple of hours from my house (I'm near RDU airport), so my BT adapter will likely be here Monday anyway. I do wonder what the root cause is... I may play around with moving the tablet and cable around some today. Wish I had an old ferrite snap choke laying around here, maybe that would clean it up.

Oddly enough, I looped a Usb extension cable and put it between the OTG and USB/RS232 and it mostly works. Hopefully the BT will be plug and play and all this will be a worry of the past anyway
