Shadow Logger MS for Android
Shadow Logger MS, a data logger for a modern mobile device that support all MegaSquirt Firmwares. Shadow Logger MS is ready for broad based beta testing. so feel free to download and install it during beta testing. As Bluetooth does carry some inherent problems in providing slower read rates and complexity of setup, the focus for this version has been functionality over flash. It it is solid and simple to use, The flash will come soon .
- broad support
- read rate
- Data Access, simple place to get your log files
- Support for all firmwares
I should add that it does include the Accelerometer data from your phone too, and includes that in the log files.
You will need a Bluetooth to RS232 Adapter. I have tested many different adapters and found they do behave differently. Some have poorer read rates, short range, some have hoops to jump through before it connects. When I found one that worked well, I picked up a bulk purchase of them so I could pre-configure them to work straight off and pass them on. This connects quickly, has good range and the best 115200 data rate out of any I have tested.
If you already know your way around blue tooth adapters or have one you use now, great that should work here. If you need one, I would suggest this as my first choice:
https://www.efianalytics.com/products/c ... tooth.html
Once connected, it should be pretty straight forward. Shadow logger MS is integrated with a new site i have put up ShadowTuner.com. ShadowTuner.com provides for easier access to your log files and allows you to share your logs or view others that people have shared.
Be patient with this site, I still do not have nearly all the functionality I have planned and do not yet know what I need for hardware and bandwidth. So, during this beta phase I am hoping to learn more.
For all Android owners, please go ahead and try it out. I welcome feed back and want to work through any issues before releasing it to the Android Market.

Re: Shadow Logger MS for Android
Nice work Phil,
I have a couple of them I have ordered some time ago : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bluetooth-RS232 ... 2896wt_932
Did you try them ? I was planing to use them as a cheap solution since I only need 2 or 3 meter of range.
Thanks,
Ben

I have not tried that one.. The internal boards are nice for clean fit, as you note range often suffers.
Let me know how that one works out.

Re: Shadow Logger MS for Android
Tried it, used with the same bt-232 I have used successfully with TS.. installed fine and loads, extra hr11d on an bench unit.
Running on an HTC Hero w/Cyanogenmod 7.1, Android 2.3.7 (Gingerbread)
connects, many read errors/disconnects, but mslogger does the same, assuming phone side bt issue.
it stays solidly connected if I'm not actively reading fwiw.

Re: Shadow Logger MS for Android
That is surprising if it works with TS, that it won't here.
Have you tried with Blue Term to see if you can get a response to the Q or S commands?

Re: Shadow Logger MS for Android
It worked flawlessly with 100+ foot range, but that was under a "normal" Linux on a x86 laptop with quite a bit more CPU and memory, and probably a much better BT adapter.LT401Vette wrote:That is surprising if it works with TS, that it won't here.

(I was running class1 adapters on both ends, I never really did a full range test, ~100ft was simply where I ran into my fence)
It's probably the phones low HP CPU or something goofy with the BT stack.
It responds to some extent using blueterm, will play with it more tonight.

Re: Shadow Logger MS for Android
I think Dave has a bead on the issue, something with HTC shenanigans, thinks he has a fix already.
