New iOS Logging AND Tuning App - blueTune
Howdy,
I thought I'd post to let everyone know of an iOS app/hardware combination I've been working on for logging AND tuning Megasquirt using an iPad 3, iPhone 4S, or iPhone 5. I totally get the "Why, a $50 laptop works fine" argument, but I'm a geek and I think it's cool. The app is unreleased, but it's going to be called "blueTune", and it leverages the above listed devices' Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE or BT 4.0, synonymous) support. Long story short, BLE is a totally different Bluetooth protocol (not backwards compatible) that is very cool for iOS developers because it's the first time we've been able to make external devices that talk to iOS devices without having to pay globs of money (~$30k) to Apple in order to get the special permissions to use the "normal" bluetooth capabilities that have always been in iOS devices. Here's a demo of my progress:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... wNZK93HS9M
If you'd be interested, let me know. I'm trying to get some buzz going so I can get a first run of the hardware into production.
Thanks,
Jay

Pretty cool!
Megasquirt is not for use on pollution controlled vehicles. Any advice I give is for off road use only.

Just signed up on your mailinglist.
About the 6-gauge orientation in your app, I think it would be more 'slick' or quicker, if you could just tap on or swipe over a gauge and have the menu appear rightaway to reassign a different input to that gauge.
Keep up the good work!
Will the phone version have a different layout opposed to the iPad-version because of the smaller screen?

Re: New iOS Logging AND Tuning App - blueTune
Totally agree on the swipe over (or maybe double tap?) idea for bringing up the gauge assignment, that'll be in there really soon. As for the iPhone version, I haven't started on it's layout yet. I'm thinking it'll look similar in Portrait mode (small toolbar across top with same features). Not sure about gauge organization, a 3x2 layout like in the iPad version will probably make the gauges too small. I'll have to play around with it and see what's usable. I'm open to suggestions too.BigBlockMopar wrote:Just signed up on your mailinglist.

Maybe having a tap-and-drag function on the gauges to re-arrange their order and layout on the screen might be feasible.
I currently have an iPhone 4S. I will try to come up with ideas of having a useful and easy readable screenlayout on the phone.

Re: New iOS Logging AND Tuning App - blueTune
Had a little go at what I think could be easily read/noticed when working on an iPhone.
Instead of gauges I think moving bars would be easier to notice. When a value gets to a critical level, the higher bars (or maybe the entire bar-block can become orange or red.
Just an idea.

Re: New iOS Logging AND Tuning App - blueTune
Cool, that might work well. I would want to be able to have the red/yellow colors for low and high values, but maybe the whole bar could just change colors (as well as length) when it gets into either extremes. Thanks for the input. I got swamped with work this last week, but I'll be doing some more work on it this weekend.BigBlockMopar wrote:Had a little go at what I think could be easily read/noticed when working on an iPhone.

Re: New iOS Logging AND Tuning App - blueTune
I'm wondering if there are any updates available on this project?

Re: New iOS Logging AND Tuning App - blueTune
Has there been any further updates to this project? I would be interested in integrating some of the App's codebase into a future project of mine if it's available somewhere.
Checked the AppStore, couldn't find any reference to the BlueTune app anywhere sadly.

I'm guessing from the time that has elapsed that this fell by the wayside.
