Unfortunately, Shadow Dash MS has stopped.

Post by arjay »

Hi Folks;

I'm seeing quite a few instances where Shadow Dash terminates upon startup with the message, "Unfortunately, Shadow Dash MS has stopped."

Each time I try and start it up again I see the same message. If I check the running processes in Android it shows Shadow Dash MS is running with 0 processes and 1 service.

If I kill that service and try and re-start Shadow Dash it will usually fail the first time and then start on the second.

Any ideas on how to address this issue? The version is 1.22 and it's been un-installed/re-installed and is running on a very clean Nexus 7 install that's fully updated.

See if 1.23 smooths out the issue.

Did you buy from Google or register through EFI Analytics?

You have to stick with which ever you started with. If you download it from the EFI Analytics site, it won't recognize Google Licensing.

I thought I had bought it directly but I did check Google Play prior to the upgrade and the most recent version listed was 1.22...

I'm having the same issue on 1.23. Well, 2 issues:

To correct Demo Mode, I uninstalled then reinstalled from the Play Store.

The "Shadow Dash MS has stopped" is a weird one. What I'm seeing is that it works 100% of the time when I start it with WiFi DISabled. However if I attempt to start it with WiFi enabled, it fails every time. I'm not really sure what to make of that.

Are you using WiFi?

Of do you mean Wifi on the tablet on it fails 100% of the time?
What kind of tablet is it? What version Android?

We're seeing the exact same thing - 100% of the time ShadowDash will refuse to open and report that it has stopped. Un-installing, re-starting the tablet, re-downloading and installing results in the same thing - 100% failure rate on startup. Same thing whether it's downloaded through Google Play or from the author's site. I was going to post up a video given that the author mentioned no-one else was having this issue to show how serious it is and how repeatable it is. Now that you've posted the same thing perhaps it will lend some weight to the Shadow Dash issues....

Google Nexus 7 tablet.....

The other thing we're seeing is a loss of registration. Back when it would at least open it was stuck in Demo mode. This happened whether it was downloaded from Google or the author's site.
If your suggestion about turning off WiFi works we'll finally be able to actually run the app again for testing, albeit, in permanent demo mode.

I found a problem related to the that was introduced in 1.22 that is likely causing the "Demo Mode" problem.

I'm not sure, but it may be related to the "Shadow Dash MS has stopped" with WiFi too.
Testing on the Nexus 7 2012, I did get a couple "Shadow Dash MS has stopped" that were not related, it seemed more related to searching. I will need to drill into that some more, but will get a release out to fix the "Demo Mode"

Amazing - you nailed it :yeah!:

If I have WiFi turned on in the tablet and try to start Shadow Dash it will crash 100% of the time. Whether I un-install it, re-install it, whatever - it will crash every time. I then turned off WiFi and it starts right up and works and even got past demo mode and realized it was registered

This is on a Nexus 7 2012 with the latest Android...

I might have spoken too soon. Now, with Wifi turned off, it's still reporting that Unfortunately, Shadow Dash MS has stopped. It also leaves a service running in the background each time. Manually killing the service seems to make no difference.

I wonder if this is related to having the settings in Shadow Dash set to turn on bluetooth on startup and turn off bluetooth on exit. What I'm seeing is that Shadow Dash is turning on bluetooth during start and then it reports that unfortunately, it has stopped and, of course, it leaves bluetooth on because it crashed in the middle of startup.

Looking back over the last few minutes, when turning off WiFi enabled Shadow Dash to start and operate properly, the only thing I did was configure the preferences in Shadow Dash, namely to turn on bluetooth as required and turn it off. It seems that until I did that it started each time - provided that WiFi was turned off.

Not sure if this feedback is helping you with this issue or even if you are paying any attention to it at all. If not, please let me know and I'll stop reporting these issues and move on.

Yes that is good feedback.
The issue often can be related to specific settings that I haven't tested under.
If you can send your appDebug.txt that might help too.

OK, the version listed at Google seems to have all sorts of issues. So I downloaded 1.24 from your site and it seems to start fine with WiFi on and it also (so far) seems to turn Bluetooth on and off as needed. So, with very limited testing 1.24 seems better.

Thing is, both are stuck in demo mode. So from a testing standpoint there's little I can do. I did register for the google group etc but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I did change the name of the tablet the other day, not sure if SD references off of that or not. The change was due to my not liking the GUID Android prepends to the FQDN as it appears in DHCP.

If we can get that sorted (the licensing) then I would be happy to make changes, one at a time, and try and narrow down any of the remaining issues. But we should settle on a version and set that as the baseline too.

Phil, did you push an update out tonight? I ask because through the play store it just updated, and now it seems to be starting up without issue, WiFi or not.

Thanks :)

1.24 is in prod on Google Play now too, (sometimes it takes Google quite a while to get things out for some reason) so that should be good. It should resolve the demo mode problem

Confirmed!

In fact, things worked very well with the short test I just did. Quick question though (before I start testing it further) I have it set to use KPH as the display unit and the gage shows KPH on the dial but the reading on the speedometer seems to be MPH (unless my speedometer is out by quite a bit).

Am I missing a setting...or is the problem between the gage and the seat
