Shadowdash and USB
Hi Everyone,
I've just started playing with shadowdash and MS so I am a novice at best. I tried searching and didn't find a conclusive answer. I Have an MS2 and shadowdash beta 1.27. I am attempting to get a dash working for my project and so far I have had little luck getting the Shadowdash to connect through USB.
I am trying to use an Azpen A700 tablet. It was dirt cheap and doesn't have bluetooth. It also doesn't have GPS, which obviously won't do for a dashboard if I need a speedo, but I thought I'd try to get it working anyway. So I hooked it up with a prolific RS232 to USB adapter made by Dynex (DX-UBDB9), a short USB to Micro USB adapter and the Azpen A700. All I would get is a message saying that it was connected, but paused. I tried the same set-up except with my wife's galaxy s4 and got the exact same results.
I double checked that my MS2 was actually working, hooked it back up to tunerstudio with the same RS232/USB adapter and it worked fine. Then I thought this cheap tablet might not support OTG. I couldn't find any specs so I used OTG helper or something and it claimed it did support it, so I tried again, same results.
This morning I loaded MSdroid on the cheap A700 tablet and it worked! I guess this proves that it is OTG compatible and in theory Shadow Dash should work, but what am I missing? I'd prefer to use shadow dash if it will work.

Re: Shadowdash and USB
I would stick with an FTDI cable on Android. The prolific drivers have been very flaky between versions. So I hooked it up with a prolific RS232 to USB adapter made by Dynex (DX-UBDB9)

Re: Shadowdash and USB
Any regular RS232 to USB cable that uses the ftdi chipset instead of a prolific chipset.

Re: Shadowdash and USB
I ordered one today, should have it tomorrow. It is a cable made by FTDI so hopefully it will work.
Re: Shadowdash and USB
I received my new FTDI cable today and it works great. So just to let others know, this is the stuff I am using and and can confirm that it all works together.
Azpen A700 Tablet
USB-A to USB-Micro adapter
Chipi-X10 RS232 to USB cable
Shadowdash Beta 1.27
It closed the connection after 3 minutes with the beta software. Is that correct? I can understand for demos, but kind hard to test it 3 min at a time in Beta.

Nope, the beta should be fully functional. It sounds like it is not seeing an EFI Analytics Registration. It closed the connection after 3 minutes with the beta software. Is that correct? I can understand for demos, but kind hard to test it 3 min at a time in Beta.
Are you registered through EFI Analytics or was it from Google Play? I will put 1.27 out for Google beta users.
