That indicates there is a problem on the RS232 side of the adapter. The BT Adapter may not be configured properly, or there may be an old fashion problem in the RS232 connection.

What BT Adapter are you using?

Can you talk to it if you plug a cable into the same DB9?

Thanks Phil.
It's the BT I bought from you off your website some time ago.

I will see if I can find my old cable and plug in.

I found my old DB9 cable that I had used a long time ago with my MS2, it is a DB9 Thru cable and i have a usb adapter on it. I recall it worked well on the MS2, is there a process to get it to work properly with the MS3? I have always used the usb cable.

There should not be other than making sure the USB to serial drivers are installed. If it is an FTDI based cable, the drivers would be installed for the MS3 port to work. If the cable is based on something else, well then you will need those drivers.

Check in Device Manager, see if it is showing up as a device without drivers, or if there is a Comm Port appearing when you plug it in.

When you tried to use the Bluetooth adapter with your MS3 did you have the little grey switch in the position closest to the antenna?

I tried it both ways because I wasn't sure what it was set in past when working and didn't know if it had been bumped. Come to think of it not sure if I cycled ecu after I switched (not sure if it needs it)

Can I assume the BT adapter has a problem and needs replaced or is there something else I should check?

That may not be the case, I have a utility program you can use to check the settings on the
adapter and if you have a PC with Bluetooth you can also use the Bluetooth Communication
option to check if the BT Adapter is communicating correctly.

Here is the link to the utility program.
http://efianalytics.com/TunerStudio/sup ... _setup.exe

Using your USB to serial cable connect the BT Adapter to your PC
and put the gray switch in the position closest to the DB9 connector.

In Simple Mode if you click on Email Current Settings it will
save the BT Adapters settings to a text file in your Documents
folder so you can check the current settings.

Was this resolved? I am getting exaclty the same error "open connection adapter unable to get response from controller". I can connect to tuner studio via the usb adapter (MS2 ECU).

sorry i never did follow up. Long story short my BT adapter is connected via an extension cable, i had the BT unit taped to the cord because it did not connect directly. Somehow under the tape the switch was pushed to the incorrect position. Once i moved it back it seemed to work fine until the next error started.

As proposed by the EFI guys I flipped the gender changer around so that the Bluetooth adapters threaded studs are facing the threaded studs on the gender
changer.

That way I got it working most of the times. I have some connection issues when the engine is already started, but when I first connect and then start the engine it works fine.
