Sensor layout on the track?

Post by RyersonFSAE »

Hi there,

I was wondering if there was any software out there that can take logged gps and sensor data and draw a track with the sensor along the track, this is for driver training.

I have heard of racechrono and harrys lap timer but I don't see any way to use them for what I want.

I remember that the AEM EMS4 was able to do this exact thing.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Phil.

Doesn't MS Droid do this? I seem to remember seeing a log of Nigel doing laps of Brands Hatch.. https://www.facebook.com/msdroid

Accuracy may be the issue though.. depending on what you want to do..

Last year I created a simple datalogger using an arduino that logged data to a SD card, I then uploaded the logged data to Google Earth to show the path...

Thanks for the reply, that is an interesting app. I was hoping to get something for desktop though.

Well done on the datalogger!

In any case I found what I was looking for, Race Render 3 is what its called and does it all, even accepts the MS datalogged files... Couldn't be happier.

Cheers!

Hey all,

So I have been experimenting with the software and was looking into GPS logging however was a little unsure of how this will work...

The GPS logging will be for a formula style car that has no room for a laptop, possibly a phone, but would rather avoid using anything.

I was going to use the Qstars X818 GPS receiver that is offered by tuner studios, however, from what I understand, unless its over CAN, the ECU cannot log GPS.

Any suggestions on a solution? I don't really know what this GPS system is capable of and therefore am not sure about my options.

MS3 can read GPS data from a CAN extender (such as JBperf's IO-extender) or another device on the CAN.
There's an option in the current dev code to log "interleaved" GPS data onto the SDcard. It records GPS data at a low data rate while maintaining the high data rate of everything else.
TunerStudio cannot yet extract that data, but it is planned.

Thanks for the update, I feel like it is an important feature to have for driver development and am glad to hear it is planned for release.

I will probably log data onto a phone thats with the driver using racechrono and export it into racerender.
