ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
I'm having difficulties to get ShadowDash connected to the MS3 ECU. When I try to connect to the ECU it makes connection to the BT adapter succesfully, the plug icon turns to green and so on, but then it just shows message "Searching for Controller" forever. It seems that the software kind of hangs up at that point. At least commanding disconnection doesn't work after that.
What makes this problem a bit weird is that MSdroid works just fine with the same tablet and MS3 unit. So apparently the BT connection from ECU to tablet works just fine.
I found some questions about similar problems from old posts but no any solution. So if anyone can provide any advice how to fix or troubleshoot this I would appreciate it greatly.
The tablet is some cheap unbranded device with Android 4.2.2 and the MS3 is running 1.3.4 firmware.

Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
The most common reason for a problem connecting is when the firmware is updated to something where the proper ini file isn't in the installer or on the server.
With 1.3.4 firmware it is on the server though. Do you have internet connectivity when you are trying to connect?
It just needs it the 1st time to get the ini file.
Can you post the appDebug.txt file in the dir:
/Shadow Dash MS/

Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
Missing ini file was the first thing that came to my mind too. So I specifically checked that there was internet connectivity when I tried to connect. My garage has slightly intermittent WiFi availability so this was one potential problem
Here is the appDebug.txt file from the last attempt.

I see you are on SD 1.30, there were several cleanups for 1.31. Try updating to that and see if you get the same issue.

Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
Unfortunately that didn't help. Still the same result though now there was a bit more variation in status messages. And the appDebug file has a lot more data now.

Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
Do you have any other phone / tablet to try.
I would like to know if the trouble is with the tablet or the BT Adapter.
In the log I see it did get connected to the BT Adapter, but never found a controller.
May need to get Comm debug out of it.

Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
Previously I tried another tablet with the same BT adapter and it worked. Though it was different MS3 firmware version. And as I mentioned before MSdroid works fine with this combination so there shouldn't be anything fundamentally wrong with the hardware.
How I can get Comm debug?

Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
It looks as though I have removed the Comm Debug option from the menu some where along the line.
I will need to put it back in the next build.
I have a feeling I know what it will look like as in the posted log it appears to connect to the BT Adapter, but when it send a request for a signature it doesn't get anything back.
Can TS connect through your Bluetooth adapter?

Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
I have similar problem as the OP in that SD seems to stall on "Searching for Controller"
I am running MS2 Extra v3.2.1
Bluetooth adapter is supplied by EFI Analytics
Tablet is cheap Chinese (Chuwi VX1) running Android 4.2.2
Blue Term connects and MS responds to "C" with ... MS2/Extra release 3.2.1 20111221 14:40GMT (c)KC/JSM/JB MS2
Blue Term responds to "Q" with ... MS2Extra Serial321
MSDroid connects and works OK
Tuner studio connects and works OK
SD works OK on my HTC Desire 816 (Android 5.0.2)
AppDebug file attached

Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
I to have similar problem and cannot get either of two tablets to connect to the controller. They find and connect to the bt adapter but stall on searching for controller.
EDIT TO ADD:
My laptop does not have BT,but does fine on the USB/serial adapter. I have also tried several cables between the Microsoft and BT adapter just to eliminate that possibility. The two tablets are LG G-pad and Dragon Touch M8.

Do you know if the BT Adapter is configured properly to work?presbychuck wrote:I to have similar problem and cannot get either of two tablets to connect to the controller. They find and connect to the bt adapter but stall on searching for controller.

Can you get a response from the MS using Blue Term and typing a Q?

Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
Hey Phil,
I've had the adapter for a while (slept since getting it) and thought it was preconfigured and ready to go out of the box. I didn't see anything in the instructions (that I recall) other than the switch needing to point away from the cable. If I've completely omitted a step then that will be right along par with the rest of what I've been doing lately.
I'll go dig and see if I can find the instructions that came with it again.

Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
Here's my latest.
Blue term gets nada. I loaded it on my Galaxy S5, my Dragon Touch M8 and my LG Gpad. Nothing on any of them. So, I decide that perhaps the baud rate is boogered or something and I load hyperterminal on my laptop and hook the adapter up there. No returns on "A" so I had to use the AT commands. Anyway, the baud rate was already 115200 so I figured the rest was probably OK but reloaded as per the spec sheet. Back to the bike and again, nothing with any device. In fact, two of the three won't even connect to the controller. Then suddenly, just as I'm about to give up in disgust after six hours of rebooting devices a zillion times, the G-pad lights up as connected, determined the firmware and sets into reading and logging as pretty as you please (key on, but not running). So I toyed with it a few minutes, yep it appears to be reading the sensors, TPS moves with throttle, MAP looks right, but the battery was getting quite low on the bike and needed to charge so I disconnected, shut it down and put the maintainer back on it. After a few minutes charging I tried again with the G-pad and once again got nothing except the "searching for controller" message. Now I'm totally stumped. It works first time every time on the laptop and USB/Serial adapter.
Any suggestions?

Ok... I didn't know you had an Adapter from EFI Analytics, that being the case there should be no setup.

Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
Thanks Phil.
Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
We also had a "searching for controller" issue with Shadow Dash. Equipment: MS3 Pro, Samsung Tab 4, Windows 8 Toshiba laptop, EFI analytics serial bluetooth adapter.
Today we did some testing and found that we can either connect to Shadow Dash OR to the laptop. With Shadow Dash connected, in Tuner Studio we use Communications - Settings - Detect, and the laptop detects nothing.
Whichever connects first seems to have priority, or if Shadow Dash is connected then disconnecting the bluetooth adapter allows the laptop to connect. Disconnecting the USB cable allows Shadow Dash to connect. Sometimes we have to restart Tuner Studio to connect, but not usually. Shadow Dash connects through the MS3 serial connection with the bluetooth adapter, the laptop through the MS3 USB output.

You can't use the USB and serial port at the same time, only one or the other. They both connect to the same io of the processor.

Re: ShadowDash, "Searching for Controller" problem
I was having similar problems with similar symptoms. I had a laptop with bluetooth capability turned near the car. Once I shut the laptop off, my Microsquirt was able to fully communicate with Shadow Dash on my Android cell phone.
