Latest ECU Definition File?

Post by ErnieJones »

Last night I updated my MS2 controller to firmware 3.4, this morning Shadow Dash was not connecting to it. Well, it was connecting, but then it didn't work.

My guess is that Shadow Dash may need a definition file update so that it knows what to do with firmware 3.4 on the MS2 ?

Does anyone know where I can get it or if that's correct?

I'm using TCP/IP so when the tablet is connected to the ECU it does not have Internet access to download the update itself - assuming that is the way it normally works?
Thanks you;

Yep... that is where it would go to the server but would need internet.

You should have the right ini from the zip file when you updated the firmware. Or it would be in your TunerStudio Project.

[YourTunerStudioProject]/projectCfg/mainController.ini

If you put that on your phone in the dir:

[sdcard]/.efiAnalytics/config/ecuDef/

Then SD will find it when it connects.

Excellent - this addressed the issue :yeah!:

While you're here, every once in a while Shadow Dash starts up, connects to the ECU, displays all the data, but not the engine RPM for some reason. Any idea on why this would occur?

I can see it in Tuner Studio so the data is being sent :?:

Are you running Shadowdash and Tunerstudio at the same time? If so that is your issue, all MegaSquirt ECUs only have one serial port even if there is 2 ways to connect to it(USB serial or DB9 serial), only one can be used at a time
MS3+X on 73 Karmann Ghia ignition only with LS2 truck coils firing in sequential, fuel next.
2333(103*70) Type 4 with DTM also sitting in living room just need exhaust.

No, I learned a while back that they can/will interfere with each other.

I found out the hard way to.

I would reload the dash or look at what input it is using for the gauge.

As I mentioned, it does work it's just that every once in a while it does not come up. All the other sensors do - just the tach.

That is odd. I haven't seen that. There shouldn't be anything different about the tach.

Is it on the 1st dash?

This is the black and green dash with the large sweeping tach on the top (I forget what it's called but it's the popular one).

I can check it to see if the other dashes do it. That might help to pin it down. Tuner Studio never shows an issue with respect to any of the datastream.

If you are using any of the more current firmwares that use the new protocol, it is quite unlikely there is a problem with the data stream. My 1st guess would be that it is related to the gauge getting subscribed to the channel. I haven't seen that happen though... :|

It happened again today and was resolved with closing off and re-starting Shadow Dash. But, I did take advantage of the opportunity to see if the other dashes in SD had working tachs and they did - so it seems to be localized to the one I am using. I'll look at the settings for the tach and see if there's anything up there.

BTW, any chance you'll address the font color issue in SD some time soon? I find it really hard to read a lot of the options in the settings - especially the one's for WiFi :)
