i m looking in to a ms3 and ms3x so i can do Sequential fuel/spark on it and need help the Quickstart Guide said 11. Set the base settings (engine type, ignition setup, wheel type.) Note! Never start creating a tune "from blank" always use a base tune or start connected to your Megasquirt.
where do you get a base tune or does it create one when i set everything up and what all do i need to do to get the car running on the Megasquirt i know i need to Setup sensor calibrations is there anything else i need to do

sorry if this is in the wrong place or something is wrong I'm new to this

thanks josh

when you build and install the MS whichever variant you end up using...once the firmware is loaded into the MS it also loads a base MSQ/tune into the MS and you configure that base MSQ based on your setup . That is where the tune is generated and you tune from there.

If you wanna toy around with tuner studio you can download is and take a look at the example projects and you can play around looking and familiarizing your self with how it works . You can find it at www.efianalytics.com

thanks josh

Right now your best bet for running a 4L80E is either James's Microsquirt transmission code or a GPIO running MegaShift.

The trans control device is separate from the MegaSquirt.

As with any aftermarket ECU, you need to understand engine basics and tuning principles.

i got my ms3 and a ez tcu and the ez tcu requires a square wave type tach signal that pulses once per cylinder firing and i need to know if i can get it from the ms3 tach out

That's exactly what the standard tach output setting will do.

The MS3X tach output will supply a signal that swings 0 to 12 volts if you install the JP3 jumper as shown on this page:http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms3/hardware.html#ms3xjps

what is it if the jp3 is not in

Without JP3 it functions as an "open collector" output which would require a pullup resistor to an external voltage source. Or you could do some creative modding on your MS3X card and install a pullup resistor to +5 volts which would make the output swing 0 to 5 volts.

can i use the tps signal and no 5v or gnd i need to tps signal one for the tcu and one for the ms3 and they both have 5v tps and gnd so i need to use the tps signal for both and the gnd and 5v from one can i just not use the 5v and gnd on one or do they need to be used

As long as the MS and TCU are grounded to the same place, they can share the TPS signal. Run the ground and power for the TPS from the same controller (MS or TCU), but not both, especially don't run power (+5V) from both. I guessing the trans shifting (TCU) will be less sensitive to TPS than AE set by the MS, so I would suggest running ground and power (to the TPS) from the MS, to ensure greatest possible accuracy for its TPS input.

could they be shared through CAN?

They could have been, if a Microsquirt was controlling the transmission, but with the FAST ezTCU controlling the transmission, there is not way for the can bus to communicate to the TCU.
