backfires an popping in the exhaust question

Post by Yves »

First : I tried posting my log, but the system here doesn't allow for more than 1MB in file.

Did a run and experienced some backfiring and some minor popping in the exhaust. During an acceleration, it was more severe. Had AE on when I was doing the run.

I can see spikes in the logs when the tps is going up and then going over to a flat line. So it's right were the tps is going flat and it seems to be lean right before on the ramp up. I didn't notice anything other abnormal. The pointer seems to jump up in the same rpm range quite a bit according to map.

Is this something rather related to my tables not being dialed in or the AE ?

Try shortening the log with MLV, or putting it in a ZIP file.

Excuse me the dumb question, but how do you shorten it in the viewer ?

PS : I have been looking at the logs, seems like the PW doesn't really move a lot during an accel. AFR is pretty lean then >17. Also during decel she's pretty rich it seems, < 13.

A shorter datalog of a run around the block, mainly targetting 1800 and 2300 rpm ranges. AE was put at 1000 %/s to not have it engage.

I noticed that the ign. timing seems to wander. This is a GM HEI with 8 pin module (TPI era Camaro type distributor) but an MSD version of that. Am I looking at a problem here ?
Ignition control is set to speed density only.

Will put this in another thread specifically about this wandering as well.
