Typical EGT temps

Post by JAM »

A general question looking for some real world feedback- what EGT temps do you see at idle and WOT? What engine and application do you have? I know this can vary depending on a million variables but lets hear it!

I see about 400c at idle, and about 760-780c cruising at 70mph top gear and is see maybe up to 800c under full throttle from 70mph cruise speed. on a bmw m20b25 n/a inline 6 2valve per cylinder engine.
1990 bmw 320i daily driver with m20b25 ms3 sequential fuel, 380cc injectors, d585 coil near plug, home made cam sync, launch control, fan control, vss, homebrew egt logging what's next????

this varies a bit for me, i have the iox with 8 egt. being cheap i bought 8 cheap probes. they vary about 200* f for me switching the physical probes around temps follows the probe not the port it was in.

i have a turbocharged sbf making around 750-800hp running e85 typical temps for me are 1500-1700*F, i did however have a wasegate failure once and run up to 20 lbs boost and not enought injector, i saw a brief mid 14 afr and egt of 1950* .

at that time no, i had afr and egt safety, egt safety added more fuel and maxed out injectors/pump then afr safety shut the engine down
