2.3 Capri help
First timer here trying to get my car running. Hoping maybe someone could point me in the right direction. Heres my setup,
1980 Mercury Capri
2.3 n/a
Tfi Ignition, with distributor mounted module
Ms2 3.57
35lb/hr injectors
I know the injectors are too big for a n/a engine, but I purchased them with the intake from a Merkur.
Im attacthing my current tune, and data logger from the trigger logger. The car starts up and idles very rough, it does not want to rev up at all. The data logging from the ignition doesnt seem right to me. It wants to idle around 1400 rpm, if I try to retard the ignition at all, it stalls. Im kind of at a loss, hopefully I am missing something stupid.
Thanks for any help!
Tony

Re: 2.3 Capri startup help
Have you checked your timing with a stroboscopic timing light?

Same thing.
Does the timing on your light match the timing in TunerStudio ?

Re: 2.3 Capri startup help
I did not check the timing in turner studio while it was running. I will do that and report back. Thanks for the replies!
Re: 2.3 Capri startup help
Update,
I changed the timing belt because it looked questionable. Set it at tdc, and started it up but it was doing the same thing. I have to advance the ignition a lot to get it to start, but I can back it off a small amount after it's running. I can get it down to about 1100 rpms, any lower and it wants to stall. It's running rich, the pulse width seems high to me at 4-6ms at 1300ish rpm.
I did back the trigger angle down to 4, and it started up and ran at 2400rpm. It was allowing me to rev it up also, it was still sluggish but an improvement over before.
I put the light on it, and it's missing and very inconsistent at lower rpms, I can't get a solid number with the light. It looks to be pulling good vacuum.
I modded the ecu to work with tfi. Is there anyway I can just control fuel with it now that it has been modified?

Yes, as long as you're not using the VR input. Just don't connect the spark output.Tonyorlo wrote:I modded the ecu to work with tfi. Is there anyway I can just control fuel with it now that it has been modified?

Re: 2.3 Capri startup help
Well I found the source to most of my problems. The pmw iac looks to be wide open, so it has a bad vacuum leak lol. I have not messed with the iac yet on tuner studio. Is there anyway I can run it closed manually? I wil unhook it after that untill I get other things sorted.
Re: 2.3 Capri help
I removed the iac, and made a plate. I will work on that after I get everything else sorted. Got the car running, and it runs pretty good.
I have a problem though, If I rev it off idle, it hesitates for a second then picks up and revs fine. Im attaching a data log with me running it and revving it off of idle.

Are you able to get a log with an O2 sensor reading in it?
