table rpm / kpa bins

Post by nathanhardy »

So quick question I'm rescaling my bins a bit to better suit the motor I'm running a turbo setup so the top four or so are in boost 100 150 200 250 I'm also in boost above 85 because of altitude below 85 it spaced in fives till 30.. on the rpm side it's spaced around 300 rpm starting at 800 up till 3500 rpm then after that it's 500 till 5000 then its every thousand till 7000.

my question is what is too large of a gap to run or is there even one? on both kpa and rpm.

I'm sure it my OCD but every thing gotta have some even spacing other wise it drives me nuts!!!

you just re space them to give the best resolution where you need it most if you have a rpm or kpa load point and the ve value change is minimal from one to the next you could prob lose that row or column and re use it higher or lower in the map to gain more tune ability where it may be needed, usually around the cruse area is good place to have the resolution,

So having it spaced as far as 1000 a part isn't bad? The way I have it set is to give me max tuning around cruse! 2000 to 3000! What does ms do if it goes above your last bin value say if 7000 was the last bin and you missed a shift and saw 8k

Yeah that sounds fine my bike on ms2 is spaced far apart to get to 14000rpm on a 16x16 fuel table. it would continue to use the values in the last bin eg the 7000rpm value.

same thing with the kpa or fuel load? so it'll see 11.5 after 250kpa if 11.5 is my last bin?

Yes - if you have 11.5 in the (topmost) 250 kPa bin, the code will still use 11.5 when (if) you hit 300.

Is there a way for TS to adjust the spread/values of the bins and interpolate the values that already exist accordingly?

Yes. Under Basic Setup -> VE table, there's a little button in the lower left that's called 'Toggle Re-bin X & Y'. Click this to open the re-bin window. Then you can put in whatever values you want for the bins and when you're finished, click on the button to interpolate the VE values. (I'm using MS2x and Tunerstudio 2.6.01).

It's under the Fuel Setting menu - the normal VE table where you'd make changes. If you hit the button (^>) at the origin point of the table it unlocks the bins. You change them and then hit the "Apply new X&Y Values, Interpolate Z" button.

Id like to see more boost points. If your running 175kpa your relying on the 150 and 200 rows to be spot on and that 175 is exactly in the middle of them for fueling

5 kpa in vacuum seems excessive. I run a decel row near 25, my motor idles at 40kpa so Ive had a 35/40/45 then scale on up from there is 12 or so bins to up 8. Then add more for boost. I personaly run 20kpa break points and have my closed loop boost bias table tuned in the same fasion

Which Ecu do you have? Ever thought about table switching? My ve1 runs mostly vacuum to 3000 rpm then switches to ve3 which is mostly boost to 320kpa and runs from 3000 to 8000rpm. I'm able to have 300 rpm break points with 200 rpm points around peak torque. My ve scaling moves up and to the right and give me an effective 26x31 table

I can post an msq later if you would like

Ms2 I gave thought about switching I just would want to make sure I have it set right and over lapped incase something went wrong.... Can the system ever fail and not switch?

I had the same fears. Been running well into a year now without issue. Since the switch is internal and code, there isn't any hardware to fail externally, it would be the same as o2 correction not turning on, or warm up enrichment not turning on

Don't worry about!
