E85 Flex fueling and crank
Hi, i have wondered if i should use E85 in VE3 table and regulare gas in VE1, i was thinking to buy a fuel sensor for a GM car it doesnt cost much. Im using MS2Extra latest version, but i have read alot aboute the E85 and cold start issues. My question is if i make cranking PW a BIG number as i have read that E85 needs when cold, what will happen if i only got regular gas on the tank. will i then drown/flood the engine because the crank PW is to high? Do i have to log into the ms2extra box and turn of flex fuelling (E85) Lets just say for example that on 20degrees celsius on regular gas the crank PW is 253%, and with E85 i.e 700% PW to get the car started at the same 20celsius. will it then use th Crank PW at 700 when trying to start the car? I would like to run 100% on E85, but sometimes i have to fill up the gastank with regular 95oct gas if there is no gas-stations that sell E85.
Im suppose to use this with a Datsun 280z, L28et.

Re: E85 Flex fueling and crank
The current code scales the cranking pulse width based on the flex fuel multiplier.
We're testing out more sophisticated flex fuel blending (separate cranking, WUE, etc, that blend together) in MS3, but I'm not sure it will be possible to bring it to MS2.

I don't think there would be enough flash space for the configuration data and programming required to implement that on MS2 it is very very nearly full.

Well i didnt exatly understand this, will it only use the crank PW that i set in the bins for regular startup?
Can you guys upgrade my ms2extra to MS3 with the same box that i allready have. or do i need to change all of the wirings and start all over again? what would the cost be? or is it just as cheap to buy all new? I so regret that i bought the ms2 in a hurry here in Norway. I know i will upgrade to ms3 as soon as the money allows it, then i can run full sequential also and as you say maybe a better code for flex fueling.

Re: E85 Flex fueling and crank
The minimum needed to upgrade to MS3 is
- MS3 card
- MS3 case
The main wiring is unchanged and most standard pins from the MS2 are supported on MS3.
Optional is the MS3X card for sequential. This uses an additional wiring loom.

Re: E85 Flex fueling and crank
Just to confirm - the MS3 card is too big for the MS2 case? There are several stacking sockets under it; could it be brought down to fit?
Apologies if this has been covered; some days my search-fu truly sucketh ...

Re: E85 Flex fueling and crank
The DIP40 "spacers" are required to allow the card to clear the DB9 socket.
Sounds like you need to buy an MS3 ! (humour)

Re: E85 Flex fueling and crank
With the flex fuel there is a setting for the baseline ethanol percentage. Tune your car on either E85 or gasoline (including the common 5-15% Ethanol blends), then whatever percentage your flex sensor is showing in TS for that fuel, put that into your baseline setting and MS2 will automatically scale everything based on the flex sensor return no matter if you first tuned on gas or E85.
