Advice on hand tuning MS1's 8x8 AFR tables for 8psi

Post by deathtrapmiata »

How should I scale my 8x8 table for 8 Psi?

1.8l mazda miata
originally when I was naturally aspirated:

100
80
70
60
50
40
30
20
...800_1300_2000_3000_4000_5000_6000_7000 .........<- this worked well

no I have to incorporte 156 map kpa into the Y-axis while still keeping driveability in the low range

for the y axis is it ok to just have the cells creep up like normal but then just be 12.5 - 11.5 after 100kpa?
for example:

Or should I strive for more resolution in the boost and minimal in the cruise cells?
And if anyone has an idea for revison be my guest

DeathTrap,
This is my table from a turbo 5.0 mustang. 135kpa =5psi boost 170=10psi and 205=15psi
IMHO, You dont need high resolution in the boost area as that is usually just WOT.
I found it best to adjust my tables Axis values to fit into the range the engine will realistically see.
i.e. if your your idle is 35kpa no since in starting the table at 20, try 30 instead.
Also be realistic on the top side too no sense in entering up to 250kpa on a low boost engine.
The hardest part to tune the table and where i adjusted mine was around the idle area.
Its ok the have a big AFR jump in the boost transition area as MS will smooth (interpolate?) it out.

thanks!

thats pretty much what I was trying to confirm.

Do you think the same principle applies to the ignition/spark advance table?

we were getting knock and hesitation right at the top of the VE/Spark table with AFR's at 11.8....spark advance was 14 -15 degrees

but the top cells of both VE and Spark table follow up from boost on the Y axis like this

VE.... 156
128
114
100
85
...and so on (downwards)

the spark cells are very similar

14-15 deg shouldn't knock at 8psi. Poor fuel? Confirmed timing matches commanded with strobe?

Check the log and see what commanded spark advance was, maybe there is a cold/iat or other adder increasing total advance.
