Please help. Engine dies after it hits rev limit

Post by Onime »

I have strange problem with my tune, if I hit rev limit in neutral and quickly release throttle,
engine starts to die slowly it feels like one or two spark plugs get wet. I suspect something creates very reach condition.

Rev limit is set on fuel cut.

From logs I can see that PW goes down when throttle is released, but Fuel flow cc/min increases, I wonder if it can be related.

Below is link to log file, please take a look. I test described condition from 805 second. thanks in advance!

You say it feels like plugs are getting wet.

Have you actually looked at the plugs?

If not that will tell a whole lot.

I would check them when it dies if possible with out restarting the engine.

strain, I had AFR sensor removed at that moment it was on my friends car. So I don't know what AFR would look like, I will try it maybe tomorrow.

David, yes I can make this test tomorrow, in case they actually get wet what can be cause of that?

Maybe I need decel fuel cut off or something?

Can you post your msq? I saw your idle pulse width and it's very low 1.5~1.7, did you check your dead time? And the afr it's very useful to diagnose.

strain, hi I had no time to check anything with car yet because of work.

To be honest I have not tested dead time for these injectors, and I know how important that is. Actually tune is 40% done or maybe less it needs lot more work to be done.
Here is my msq, please critique. :) It would be very useful!

Running a 50RPM hysteresis on fuel cut seems like a bad idea, especially in boost. You'll be running some cylinders lean for sure. Typically you want a number of hundred RPM for that setting. e.g 200-300.

The VE table should not have those zeros in the bottom row and there are other areas that look untuned with the very large steps between cells.
Reviewing your datalog with that MSQ opened in the "Tuning Console" of Megalogviewer says that the log and MSQ don't match up. i.e. it's the wrong MSQ.

If this problem is occurring only after you've been bouncing off the limiter in neutral, then revisit those limiter settings first.
