coils on firewall: Spark wire length.

Post by DonMaximo »

I'll apologize in advance if this is a silly question, but I'm interested in whatever feedback I can get.

I'm converting from Ford TFI to (8 coils, sequential firing) Coil-near-plug in preparation for turbocharging and tightening up my timing.

I don't have the room to setup coils on valve covers (LS style), so I'm considering fastening coil assemblies to the firewall.

Max RPM will less than 7000.

What, if anything, am I compromising by having spark wires of different length and in some cases, longer than they were with a dizzy ?

I can see benefits from this setup such as getting the coils away from header/turbo heat, wiring would be cleaner, and I can easily avoid having spark wires crossing each other.

Remember with a dizzy you not only have the lead length from it to the furthest plug, but the lead from coil to dizzy. I'd be surprised if you get anywhere near that total length.

funny how the obvious stuff sometimes eludes me (gettin old) ... not to mention the mechanical connection (rotor-cap) that is in between.
Thank you kindly
