Ignition map for buick 3.8 turbo
I have a buick gn 3.8 turbo. I am trying to figure out the ignition table. Does any one have a table that they can share with me. Thank you
Re: Ignition map for buick 3.8 turbo
You do know this is just a starting point, do not full throttle, unless your closely watching the knock sensor. Every combo can run a little different. This is from a gas only setup, no alky or E85 in this tune.
Also, the 12deg don't belong on the map at 40-60kpa. I think this must have been a map I had when I was trying to pass emissions tail pipe test.
Make sure you read the MS manual on timing & idle control. This will resolve any hunting problems at idle, if you have any.

How did you come with this timing map, that is some very advanced timing.TroyKreft wrote:

I agree with you David. That seems like a lot of advance for a turbo setup

I don't think 23 deg is very high if running pump gas at 18psi.
My setup was a small cam, GN1 alum heads, ATR liq IC (no ice).

Are the grand national heads just not efficient?

Well I've been thinking about the timing at wot, I would start with 21deg timing, if I was doing a new motor startup.
No, you can go aways with stock heads, we had a guy in our club make it to high 10s wo/his motor ever being apart, but it took him a lot of time at the track to get it there. I'm thinking I hear people prefer ported stock iron heads for the street use, bcz of better heat transfer & it is cheaper.
As, you can tell by my sig, I'm not going cheap next go around, should be easy 9s.

I'm still wondering how you came up with the timing map.
I have never seen an engine on pump gas require 35+ deg. of timing at idle.

Re: Ignition map for buick 3.8 turbo
I was always experimenting with ways to eliminate stumble on tip in. I might have increase timing here untill the RPMs quit going up, hoping for more HP to help with the tip in problem, but I don't remember, the file was from 2002. I hated the FAST classic, you couldn't log the AEs & of course I didn't know what I was doing. The table was the newest I could find to post for this guy & didn't seem anyone else was helping him out. It probably would have been better if he posted this question on turbobuick_com.
