st170 VVT help
I have an st170 zetec engine ready to fit into my mk1 fiesta which has a standard 1.8 zetec at the moment, running with a microsquirt v3 controller.
Can someone explain how to run the VVT from my ECU?
thanks
Matt

Re: st170 VVT help
according to google the vvt on a st170 is a simple on off type set up kicks in at about 3000rpm. you should be able to use the programmable output to switch the vvt on at your desired rpm.

see section 13.10 on/off outputs.
in terms of hardware do you know the current draw of the solenoid? and do you know if it expects a low side (ground) or a high side (12v) to activate it?

Re: st170 VVT help
thanks for your response, the solenoid takes a 12v feed to activate it.grom_e30 wrote:according to google the vvt on a st170 is a simple on off type set up kicks in at about 3000rpm. you should be able to use the programmable output to switch the vvt on at your desired rpm.

Re: st170 VVT help
a solid state relay may be your best plan.

Re: st170 VVT help
just have a relay that will feed the 12v when i want the VVT to cut in and out?grom_e30 wrote:a solid state relay may be your best plan.

Re: st170 VVT help
pretty much the ecu will turn the relay on and off based from your chosen rpm supplying the 12v needed for the vvt to activate. a solid state relay may be the best option though as it turns on and off quicker than a normal and has no mechanical moving parts to wear out.

Re: st170 VVT help
oh okay thats sound! Then after that it is just adjusting the degree increase through the rev range?grom_e30 wrote:pretty much the ecu will turn the relay on and off based from your chosen rpm supplying the 12v needed for the vvt to activate. a solid state relay may be the best option though as it turns on and off quicker than a normal and has no mechanical moving parts to wear out.

Re: st170 VVT help
it looks like its just a simple on/off for your engine so below 3000 rpm vvt is off, and above that its on.
