Cold start settings 5.3sbe ls MS Gold box E85 s484

Post by amschevelle »

Looking for some insight on cold start for this combo in my chevelle. the car is running and tuned (by myself) but I havent messed with the cold start tables much since it's been done. I have just used a squirter of 93 to get it to fire but need to just get away from that and get it to start on its own. I can attach pics or email files if it helps or just tell me what to change and I can do it. Thanks in advance.

E85 generally needs more fuel than 93 to start. A lot less of it makes it into the cylinders on a cold start and it has a harder time evaporating and atomizing as well. OEM's even include heater circuits for the fuel system just because of this issue.

I would make sure that it starts well cold on 93. Once that's squared away, work on E85 starting, possibly with a global percentage increase on the E85 cranking curve.

"a squirter of 93"??? What does that mean, you manually spray a bit of (93 octane) gasoline into the intake? Regardless...

Yes been using a squirter bottle with 93 in it to get it to fire in cold weather. I don't drive it in the winter so I only used this to just move car around if I needed to. This will probably never run on 93 since I have pump e85 locally. And what all do you want to see I will post whatever ya need.

Your req fuel value appears to be incorrect. I get 2.7ms when I use your settings for 93. If I use E85 stoich of 9.85, I get 4ms. Your value is currently 8ms. If you plan on only running E85, I suggest you use 9.85 for the stoich calculation.

I'd still recommend you get a flex fuel sensor. E85 isn't always actually E85. Mixes change during the seasons and can be as low as E70 at an E85 pump.

Your cranking pulse table has very low values. On 93, I'll frequently go into the 300% range on many vehicles. On E85, I'd expect it to be even higher. I'd also select batch fire for your "cranking/startup settings" as well as "every event" for "cranking fuel pulse rate".
