rpm drop on throttle, won't rev past 3k

Post by concept_R »

Hi everyone,

I finally got to start my car (Datsun 240z Turbo, fully built engine, 440cc injectors, LS2 coil near plug, fully sequential)
Idles fine, but the engine stalls when I tap the throttle. I have to rev it up suuper slow and even then it won't rev past 3k.

I did a little research and came to the conclusion that it might be due to wrong dwell? and too little AE?

Thanks for your input!

It's idling over 85 KPa MAP so you have little to no manifold vacuum, typically you'd see 30-45 KPa at that rpm. I'd check your cam timing and ignition timing.

Thank you! I checked timing and it seems correct (set it to fixed and got 10deg) However, I do get a Cam Fault error after a few seconds? Could this be an indicator? However, since the timing is good, I can't imagine the cause of that error. I checked with a scope and I do get a cam signal (also installed the pull-up resistor)

I will definitely investigate for vacuum leaks!

Oh and it's a MS III with MS3x V3.57

Thank you!

Post another MSL that shows what happens when you slowly open the throttle to make it "rev up suuper slow". Also, I would turn off any AE for now.

I figured the cam sync fault is some 'second trigger active at' setting, I found a thread with someone having the same problem with the same setup.

I attached another log which shows the slow accel.

Thank you!

edit: found another log with slow accel.

Sync loss is reason 2, missing tooth at wrong time.

Thank you!
I emailed diy, since I followed their Nissan trigger disc install and still get this error?
Does anyone have an idea what could be causing the error?

I did some tests today and found out that my MAP sensor is defective. I thoroughly checked it and it won't go lower that ~83kpa and no higher than ~110kpa no matter what pressure is applied.

Changing the 'Trigger active' setting from Poll Level to Rising Edge cleared the Cam Fault error.

Here is another log with the replacement MAP sensor. Found that the lower wastegate port was leaking, so I disconnected and plugged it. The upper port was still connected, so the wastegate was never opening hence the boost spikes.
rpm drop on quick throttle input and horrible >3k rpm performance remain. :(

possible that the upper rev-limit is from using the wrong injector deadband/pwm settings, since I am running 440cc Supra injectors (low impedance, little over 3ohms) each connected to a 100W 3ohm resistor.

Pretty sure it's a different reason than the rpm drop which is very likely too little AE.

I added a crop of the prev. log so the high rpm cutoff is easier to spot.

If your "reqfuel" is correct, then it looks like it is simply going way too rich.
