Hi
I've just finished installing my MS3X to my kit car with a rebuilt Mazda Miata engine, 2004 1.8 VVT with Toyota COP and ITB, using stock CAM and crank sensors.
All was going well until the timing light came out.
The problem I'm having is the timing mark is at 4.30 o'clock (about -120 deg out) !
I know I cant go more then -90 for good reason. Maybe I put the timing wheel on back to front but would that not make the timing mark around 11 o'clock.
I've checked timing and all the marks line up.
Am I missing something, any help would be much appreciated
Cheers

Re: Timing way off
And this is a running engine? Or trying to verify timing during cranking before startup? If running I would suggest there is a problem with whatever technique you're using to check timing as it wouldn't run very well or at all with the timing off that far.

Thanks for the reply elutionsdesign
It was on a cranking engine.
I have however found where I was going wrong, the problem was I hadn't Flipped the polarity to inverted.
As soon as it was inverted the timing was bang on with the light, so I filled up with petrol and it started first time.
Next I have to work out the settings for the VVT.
