First Start Standard Gauge Panel
I am thinking of putting together a standard gauge set that we as a group advise people to us when first trying to bring up a new install.
The logic is on the left is the basic engine inputs that need to be set before the motor ever starts.
The top two need to read about the same, say 70 degrees
The bottom two need to the same at about 100 KPA near sea level and the same at say 82 at 6000 foot altitude.
Throttle position must sweep from 0 to 100.
On the right are the things you need to keep an eye on once the motor attempts to start or does start.
EGO should come up in about 20 sec
AFR and AFR target need to be close to pointing the same direction
All other gauges should stay between the yellow regions and out of the red regions.
Is there anything basic that I forgot and do the regions look reasonable? Hopefully, we can come to a standard layout that makes this easy to troubleshoot.

I like this gauge idea.......how'd ya get the one inside the other ?AFR and AFR target need to be close to pointing the same direction

Re: First Start Standard Gauge Panel
I personally do it by simply creating a new gauge and then whatever gauge winds up on top, I make it smaller and then change it to the target gauge. I also do this with Target VVT angle and VVT Angle on VVT motors. It makes it so that you can read it at a glance.

I think this is a great idea!
Just a few random thoughts...
I'd make the max on "lost sync counter" much lower. Even an occasional loss of sync is something to be concerned about, and with a max of 150, it may be hard to see if you've only got 2 or 3 sync losses. I'd set the max to something like 25.
Sort of the same thing on the baro gauge... the only time you'd see 0 kPa baro is if you're running your engine in space and I don't think anyone's tried that yet. I'd say make the minimum 50 or maybe even 75 on that one.
Battery voltage I'd put on the left rather than on the right since it's more of an input than an output.
Also it looks like this was designed on a widescreen monitor... how does it look on a 4:3 aspect ratio display? I don't know about others here but I'm using a cheap old non-widescreen laptop in the car and I suspect I'm not the only one doing so.

Re: Lost Sync I see lots of climbing graphs in MLV of Lost Sync wile the is trying to start the first time. Almost always a problem with the settings not matching the real tooth setup.
Re Voltage: I see lots of bad charging systems that drive setting the opening times crazy
Re: Baro and MAP I wanted them both on the same scale. Some people live in Denver (82 kpa) and others live in Florida (101 kpa).
Just my thoughts....

Re: First Start Standard Gauge Panel
I wonder if we should move some of the lights at the bottom closer to the gauge that is related? For example, should WUE be moved closer to the CLT gauge.
Should AE and DE be moved closer to Pulse Width?
Just thinking out loud...

Re: First Start Standard Gauge Panel
When I'm getting an engine started, and not strapped down to a dyno, I typically use a slightly smaller set of gauges so I have fewer things to watch:
I typically would just infer lost sync from the RPM gauge and make sure the AFR is at least in the right ballpark. I can understand preferring a couple more gauges, just a matter of personal preference.
- RPM
- MAP sensor
- Throttle position
- Coolant temperature
- Battery voltage
- Air/fuel ratio
- Pulse width
- Ignition advance

I'm in the "keep it simple" camp:
RPM
MAP sensor
Throttle position
Coolant temperature
Pulse width
Ignition advance

Coolant temperature
Pulse width
Ignition advance

Re: First Start Standard Gauge Panel
I have seen people getting burned by combinations of every one of those gauges over the years. I bet most all of us posting on this thread could do a Teamviewer session with a noob and spot an issue in a mater of seconds once you see the key on, have the owner slowly sweep the TPS, and try to start the motor and home right in on the issue keeping the motor from starting. We already have simple. That is the default/unlicensed gauge set.
I guess I could add a traces making it easier to spot grounding issues. Ask the owner to key on for for 10 sec and then crank for 10 sec.

I added a clock gauge to catch voltage drop induced ECU resets.
