ignition table

Post by joaocaleira »

Hi,

So i started with tuning the ignition table of the GX31, How should i proceed to increase the power and torque of the engine? Basically it seems like the more the advance the more torque, almost in the limit of detonation. But i also know that its not always that limit that is the most optimized point. So this engine as a standard ignition advance of 27 degrees, and i was generating a initial spark advance table on the web and it gives me values way bellow the 27 degrees. Does it make sense to use them? or it doesnt make sense to put values on the table bellow 27 degrees?

Empirically.

Put it on an engine dyno and see where it makes the most torque.

Is it a Honda GX31 engine?

Yes it is. Before with the magnet ignition it went until 5800 rpm, with full throttle. Now with the electronic ignition doesnt even exceed the 4200 rpm.

27 degrees fixed timing does look like a lot to me for such a small engine.

I would check the timing with the magneto at various rpms.
Use those timings to make a base table.

If that's not possible I would use the ignition timing generator values.

Considering idle speed is 3,100 +/- 200 rpm, not really. This engine only puts out 1hp.

What did you use to generate the table? URL?

This give at least 10 degree more than 27 degree for spark. http://www.useasydocs.com/theory/spktable.htm but it is mainly used for engines with much bigger displacement.

How is the a/f ratio monitored?
How is the knock monitored?
