Flood Clear TPS questions
Hi,
I'm looking a way to "bypass" priming pulse to avoid flooding engine while turning on and off several time the ignition. The way I understand and read the feature, it says:
"Above this throttle position no fuel will be injected during cranking to help clear a flood situation. It will also disable priming".
So that what I did, push TPS to 100% and turn on ignition key after while holding TPS and surprise, priming pulse went throught. What I missunderstood? Here's a log.
Second question is. When priming pulse is set to 4.9 PW in the graph at that temperature, what control the duration ? In my log, It's almost 2 seconds.
Thanks guys.
Martin

Re: Flood Clear TPS questions
Injectors stay closed when you do this. You cannot flood the engine when cycling ignition on & off.martroy wrote:...I'm looking a way to "bypass" priming pulse to avoid flooding engine while turning on and off several time the ignition....

Re: Flood Clear TPS questions
As you discovered, the "flood clear" TPS setting has no effect on the key-on priming pulse. Set the priming pulse to 0, that will prevent it from happening. It also prevents the fuel pump from turning on for a couple of seconds at key-on; but I have found that to be no big deal, my FP goes from 0 to 44 psi in 7/10 of a second from the time crank rotation is detected. Plenty fast enough for me...
Re: Flood Clear TPS questions
Understood that but would like to use priming pulse to help fast starting but would like to bypass priming pulse in the event of cycling key on, key off.billr wrote:As you discovered, the "flood clear" TPS setting has no effect on the key-on priming pulse. I'm tuning the priming pulse because was set to 0,1 before to avoid that.
The strange thing is description says its disabling priming pulse too.
Still have no explanation about duration of the pulse in the log.
Thanks billr

That's because that how it works.martroy wrote:The strange thing is description says its disabling priming pulse too.

Re: Flood Clear TPS questions
Hey James, not sure to understand your comment. I was saying earlier that "Flood clear option" dont disabled injectors priming pulse while turning ignition on and holding TPS over the defined value. As the description written in Tunerstudio, it should but its not happening.jsmcortina wrote: That's because that how it works.

Re: Flood Clear TPS questions
I noticed flood clear not working at all for me about a year ago on MS2Extra (http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... it=priming). Haven't checked on MS3 so far, but on MS2 neither the priming pulse nor the injections during cranking were disabled.

Re: Flood Clear TPS questions
Ouch, so is there any ways to fix that issue ?

Re: Flood Clear TPS questions
That's how MS2 behaves.
The skip-priming is an MS3 feature.

Re: Flood Clear TPS questions
The description in that option in Tunerstudio should be changed than because its saying it should work.jsmcortina wrote:That's how MS2 behaves.

Some says its not disabling cranking pulse too, why?
Re: Flood Clear TPS questions
Surely a priming pulse of 2 seconds would flood the engine? it's more like 12 Msec max here. The purpose being to eject any 'air' from the fuel rail. The fuel pump will run for a couple of seconds at switch on - but with the injectors closed.martroy wrote:Hi,

Re: Flood Clear TPS questions
I did say that. I remember that fuel was still injected and I could start the engine with TPS well above flood clear (looking into the ITBs and seeing the fuel getting injected). But as I know memories can easily be wrong and have no opportunity the check it again (no MS2 anymore) I don't want to insist on this. Or maybe the priming was enough to get the engine above cranking rpm. I have no logs from this, as this was 19? months ago when I started with MS and was just trying to get the engine to run.martroy wrote:[...]Some says its not disabling cranking pulse too, why?

In my log, the duration of a pulse of 5ms is 2 seconds.DaveEFI wrote:

Re: Flood Clear TPS questions
That's the way it shows in the datalog, but it doesn't mean the pulse is 2 seconds long.
It means that the value of the variable "PW" was 5ms for all of that period, however, there was only one injection lasting 5ms.
