As the title says i own a 01 Impreza with ej22 i want to learn how to tune vehicles I have already read the two major tuning books one that actually led me to megasquirt.
My plans is to one day add a turbo and nos to this car or maybe do an engine swap but I'd like to learn how to tune first since this seems to be the cheaper direction as long as I do not blow the engine up.

What micro/megasquirt should I get I want to get the 3 just because it's the best diy package but maybe over kill since I only have 4 cylinders. I want to make this as gas efficient as I can and also make a safe performance map. So two different maps atleast. In Fairbanks alaska we do not need to emissions test our cars anymore to get them registered so this will not be an issue but I'd like to learn how to still stay compliant.

Thank you for your time and any useful information.
Gjkrisa.

I have MicroSquirt on my 85 GLH, I'm happy with it. If you want more than basics, you want MS3.

Not needed if you're using the same fuel for both. When you WOT, you're in the different section of the map than just idling or cruising. You can have performance and gas efficient on the same map.

I'd suggest to download TunerStudio, and open the MS2 and MS3 template and what you can do. I'd start with the MS2 first.

Thank you tryingbe yes looking for more then basic. If the micro was only $100 I would start off that way but think this is better starting option.

$5.50 TuneCable: 6' DB9 tuning cable
$22.50 USB-2920: (Only needed if your laptop doesn't have a true DB9 port)
$30.45 PNP_IAT-A: IAT Sensor Kit with connector and aluminum bung
$561.60  Subtotal without wideband
$189.00 LC-2 without gauge
