Trans control - 0023 release

Post by jsmcortina »

To announce the 0023 version of the Microsquirt trans code.

Changes since the last release
Remove debug code to allow VSSout to work.
Fix a gear selector problem for GPIO/4L60E/4L80E
Add ADC channels to datalog.

The zip can be downloaded from:
http://www.msextra.com/doc/trans/files/ ... 141031.zip
and the (unchanged) manual from:
http://www.msextra.com/doc/pdf/Trans_Control-0022.pdf

A current TunerStudio is required.

Successes, failures, bug reports and suggestions welcome here.

Hi james
just wondering if you are considering user configurable inputs (digital and ADC) and output patterns in order to support a number of different shifter / transmission combinations, (similar to what lance has in code)

My design objectives are different. My aim is to have software that uses a fixed set of I/Os to make it easier to document, install and use. Less generic, but more understandable.

I am running a 4r75w Ford transmission with James' code. It works so much better than Megashift ever did, and it is much easier to setup and use also. I would think James is open to adding as many automatic transmissions as possible, just a matter of people having them for testing and getting all the correct info needed on how to control them. I don't want to speak for James on this, but that is how it has seemed he has approached this so far, very open to suggestions and willing to add support and features based on demand.

i do prefer the "correct size wrench" approach vs. the "crescent wrench" approach of the megashift code. unfortunately i removed the auto from my car and reinstalled a manual. right now im more focused on the coyote motor though.

i thought i might have asked this already, but can we get WOT mode where it shifts off RPM only similar to the way the GM stock setup does it

say actiave WOT shift mode at XXX throttle (user changable) then shifts 1-2 2-3 settable by rpm
then the rest of the mph table will work fine on top of that, after all thats all the usshift uses and that has worked great for me on turbo vehicles.

That's not implemented yet, but doesn't sound too difficult.

How well is the A340 aisin transmission stuff sorted? I might be tackling a 2JZ auto swap this winter and would like to use a microsquirt for trans control as the engine will be running MS3x

You need to find out how many shift solenoids it has and what state they need to be in to command each gear. Same with the TCC lock up function and the line pressure solenoid. You need to find out the impedance/resistance of each solenoid to make sure the ECU hardware can drive them without failing. You also need to figure out how the factory ECM knows which gear position the user has shifted the lever into.

Engine hardware and tuning will looks like childs play after digging through all the transmission stuff and shift logic. It's so gratifying once it's all sorted out you start forgetting about the over rich warm-up, untuned accel enrichment, and that lean hole in the VE table.

Any testing feedback on this release?

I'm in the process of wiring things up and have a question. In the base settings there is a spot for Input speed sensor teeth, I am guessing this is only used when you are using the TCM in full standalone mode for engine speed and wouldn't be needed when you have a second MS product running the engine and you are sharing data across the CAN bus?

the 4l80 has an input shaft sensor, it is not needed though

So does the 4T40E that I'm doing the install on. THANKS!

The input shaft speed sensor can/could be used to detect convertor slip.

Yeah that's what GM uses it for. That and gear ratio calculation for gear slippage codes. Should I wire it in to VR2 or not?

Not yet, but my truck is almost back together with the 4L60E in it now. Got a couple minor items to put back in the correct places and need to wire up the MicroSquirt, and it'll be ready to test.

I've been slacking on this, well sort of. I was at SEMA for a week and then have been trying to catch up on work since being back. I hope to have new code loaded this week though, and I'll let you know how it goes and set a log of the temp/gear weirdness.

I noticed in the configuration drop down many transmissions (including the one I am interested in at this present time). At this point, how functional is this (or are they more or less place holders)?

Also first time I have poked around in menus. Extremely intuitive and user friendly. Anyone who has used a commercial controller will feel right at home.

All the trans listed in the dropdown are implemented. However, only some are tested.
