Microsquirt trans control proposed wiring

Post by jsmcortina »

As mentioned in the other topic, I'm looking to review the wiring on my trans control firmware to more easily use the Microsquirt V3. The code was originally written around the Microsquirt V1 I had.

The proposal is to leave the "Microsquirt V1/V2" wiring as-is (to preserve existing installs) and add another option for "Microsquirt V3" that should be easier to use.

Please see attached PDF for proposal.

Comments welcome.

Question about inputs. If the TPS sensor is being read by the Megasquirt (3/3x in my case), can the TPS input on the Microsquirt be repurposed to measure a different analogue sensor? Like engine oil temp? Likewise for the built in MAP sensor, can I plumb it in to read crankcase pressure, or on some other folks cases used as a baro sensor, and bring it up as a gauge in Tuner Studio as well as datalog it? All while the Microsquirt is handling transmission control duties?

Is it important to ground the V3 controller at the engine with the main megasquirt, or can the ground wires run down with the tranny wiring and the transmission case be used?

My thoughts are the transmission is just fine, but don't want to create any noise with fresh wiring

Edit, I'll be canbus'ing engine vitals

Trans ought to be ok as they are large lumps of metal bolted directly to the engine and usually highly conductive aluminium.

Thanks James, I figured as much, but was unsure of any offsets that might be introduced. Wiring the grounds to the trans will keep the harness's separated a bit more, making any future harness work easier

One more easy question. Since I'll be canbus'ing information, do both front and rear speed sensors get hooked up on the case (engine speed and output speed) or just the rear sensor in this case?
