Hand held or box style shifting
Does anyone make a box style shifting box? Like a paddle shifter but in a smaller package.
Re: Hand held or box style shifting
Can you give more details? You mean a push-button unit?

Ya push button. Something not so obvious in the car.

I guess there is nothing out there?

The first thing that comes to mind is using horn buttons on the steering wheel - or, if appropriate for your car, a steering wheel with built in stereo controls. Nobody would suspect a "seek" button of controlling the transmission!

Matt that would be awesome. Its a 87 cutlass it does have 3 horn button. One on each side and the padded one in the center but all wired thru the single wire. So I was more or less thinking of some sort of box that could be brought up between the bench seat. Also when will the DIY 4l80 micro be out?

Re: Hand held or box style shifting
I'd get some sort of project box from DigiKey and slap a couple buttons on it, in that case.
We're currently testing a prototype 4L80E harness on an ex-Stanley Steamer van and will release it for production as soon as we confirm everything is working.

I'd have to make sort sort of circuit inside it though right? From the very little I have read so far using a micro to control the paddle shifting. It looks for a voltage between 0-5v for downshift and a different voltage for up shift. Does this all connect to the micro thru a single wire?

Yes - you'd just need a few resistors in the box.

I wish I could think of a way to get power into the steering wheel so i could use the two horn buttons

Later model steering wheel?

Re: Hand held or box style shifting
i think you should be able to use a voltage divisor type system to send a varying resistance to a voltage measuring circuit with a pull up, not sure whether youd need to invert this signal then or not, id have to read up on it,
just throwing ideas around

Well it's a single wire for ground that runs thru the column. Because there is no clock spring.
