Trans control - 0022 release

Post by jsmcortina »

Here's another release, taking on board some of the recent suggestions. Very limited testing only, so please proceed with caution.

Changes since the last release
Sort out brake input, allow polarity to be set.
Enhance TCC control to allow per-gear enable, RPM, VSS.
Port over VSSout code from MS3. (Allows PPM, PPK.)
Mask interrupts before setting solenoids to prevent disturbance of vssout.
Re-arrange base and lockup tuning pages. Manual updated.

The zip can be downloaded from:
http://www.msextra.com/doc/trans/files/ ... 141027.zip
and the manual from:
http://www.msextra.com/doc/pdf/Trans_Control-0022.pdf

A current TunerStudio is required.

Successes, failures, bug reports and suggestions welcome here.

James

Ok, so this works pretty well so far. I did notice some odd things though.

I calibrated the trans temp, but found it does weird things. In 1st gear it works great. once it shifts to 2nd the gauge defaults to 70 degrees, then the same in 3rd. Then in 4th it'll go about 30 degrees above the 1st gear reading, but at times flash down to what I believe is the actual temp. As soon as it downshifts to 3rd or 2nd its back to 70 degrees again.

The speedo output is doing something weird. When I calibrated the settings for output pin PT4 (on any of the setting PPM, PPK, time) my speedo reads 125mph. No settings change what it reads. The really weird thing is that when I turn the ignition off, the gauge stays at 125. However if I go back in and change it from PT4 then cycle the key, the gauge will go back to zero. But if I select PT4 again it will go back to 125mph and stay there.

I think that was all I noticed right now, but I will play with it some more to see how it does.

James,
Thank you for adding the 4T40E! My custom trike project is a go and I ordered parts today. I'll let you know how things work out and when done post up the msq as a base/reference for this trans.

So far this code seems to work really well. I had played with a bunch of things in the tune, and had lowered the line pressure a bit at lower loads. It was funny because this works so well that I actually thought I screwed something up and burned up the trans or something. I have never felt it shift or engage so soft. With megashift I tried to drop the line pressure as far as it would let me and it was always super harsh engagement and shifts. When I lowered line pressure with this code, it was actually too much and it freaked me out because it was so soft and slow shifting. I actually went and checked the fluid and found it was great, then went back in and readjusted line pressure up some, and of course it just came back and firmed right up. I love this code! Its doing everything I have been wanting, now just to sort out a couple of the little bugs and I'll actually be ready to add paddle shift and extra features! Thanks again James! I will definitely be doing more transmissions now.

Also...here is a log that shows the trans temp weird thing where it changes per gear, like I mentioned.

Oops, the VSSout problem was because I'd left some debug code in there.

I'm not sure what's happening with the trans temp input - I wasn't able to replicate a problem on the bench. In the 0023 release that I'm about to post I've added the raw ADC channels to the datalog set. Hopefully a fresh datalog with the new code may shed some light on what is going on.
