Toyota A340 control

Post by superdve »

Is anyone running Microshift on an Aisin A340LE?
We would like to know your shifter wiring as we are getting decoding errors by setting up the PRNDLE to supply grounded inputs for 1,2,3,OD. Also how did you deal with the (2) high side shift solenoids? We could probably rewire them in the pan. Any diagrams anywhere?

Im running an a340e. The selector inputs should be supplying a 5v input to the controller oposite to the GM transmissions.

For the shift solenoids you need to make a high side driver using a pnp transistor. I use tip125 transistors.

Cheers,
Daniel.

Yes, per Daniel's code, the firmware expects these inputs to be active high.

Daniel,

Do you have a diagram for the board modifications you have set up? I'm looking to get a MS3Pro +Microsquirt to setup and run a 2jzgte and the A340E transmission. Did you run the solenoids internal to the case, or did you build a ad-don for the PNP transistors?

Hi Jared,

I don't have a diagram handy, I would have to draw something up. I use a gpio board with the custom circuits inside. If you use a microsquirt you will need to make up the shifter input and PNP solenoid circuits externally.

Cheers

I have a simple schematic I used to switch some PFETs given to me by Nick Salyer.
If you can pull the trans pan down I think the solenoid polarity is an easy rewire as long
as you have enough pin locations on the case. We didn't do it because we wanted a
PNP solution for the JDM Aristo swap crowd.

Jose Valle from Kaizen Motorsports says the GPIO shifts better than the AEM V2 stuff.
I will be able to tell you about how well it works when Greg Banish and I get the car
back to Detroit for final tuning.

We have our trans working pretty well with Lance's software as it allows quite a bit
of flexibility for range selector inputs. I'd try James' code if I knew the A341
input configuration for each of the 4 input levers. If they expect a 5V feed to the
range switch then we can do that. I like James' approach to PNP simplicity but
since our setup came sans harness we yanked the 12V off the lever switch feed
and grounded it! (Hacks Huh?)
We are using the following for decoding and the 4th input lever for
lever decoding.

Digital Switches GM

INPUT, (1,2,3,4)
PARK, (HI, HI, HI, HI),
NEU, (LO, HI, LO, LO)
REV, (LO, LO, LO, LO)
1st. (LO, HI, HI, HI),
2nd, (HI,LO,HI,HI),
3rd, (HI, HI, LO, LO),
4th, (HI, HI, LO, HI)

Attached is the PFET Schematic that we used to switch the trans shift solenoids hi side.
I grabbed B+ from the Amphenol connector and mounted the FETS to the inside of the case
at the opposite end using dope and micas. Be sure there is no continuity between the
transistor and case at the heat sink.

James, it would be helpful if you detailed the Lever input logic for the
(4) inputs and respective solenoid outputs for each transmission drop down.
This way users could be sure their non factory wiring was setup correctly.
I'd also list if the input was expected to be grounded, 5V applied or 12V applied
to the pins. Just my .02.

That's a good suggestion. I'll think about how to include that in a future manual release.

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how to use the Transcontrol with the a340e.

here is my questions. I thought that is was a good idea to post this info in the same a340 topic.

I was looking at the transmission solenoid and there is missing info in the documentation.
a340.jpg
Solenoid A is S1,
Solenoid B is S2,
SLU- is TCC (LU) Solenoid
SLT is EPC solenoid

but what is SLN??? According to description it's accumulator back pressure solenoid. TransController documentation doesn't refer to this anywhere.
SLT- Automatic Transmission Line Pressure Control Solenoid
This pin is used to control the automatic transmission line pressure control solenoid. The automatic transmission line pressure is controlled by an electronic solenoid. This pin in association with the SLT+ pin outputs Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) battery voltage to turn the line pressure control solenoid ON.

SLN- Automatic Transmission Accumulator Back Pressure Solenoid
This pin is used to control the automatic transmission accumulator back pressure control solenoid. The automatic transmission accumulator back pressure is controlled by an electronic solenoid. This pin is connected to Ground inside the ECU as required in a PWM fashion to control the accumulator back pressure control solenoid ON. The accumulator back pressure control solenoid should be wired with one side of the solenoid connected to battery voltage (Main EFI Relay switched) and one side of the solenoid connected to this ECU pin.

SLU- Automatic Transmission No.3 Lock Up Solenoid
This pin is used to control the automatic transmission No.3 lock up control solenoid which is used to enable torque converter lock up. The automatic transmission lock up torque converter is controlled by an electronic solenoid. This pin is connected to Ground inside the ECU as required to turn the No.3 lock up solenoid ON. When the No.3 lock up solenoid is on the torque converter lock up is engaged. The No.3 lock up solenoid should be wired with one side of the solenoid connected to battery voltage (Main EFI Relay switched) and one side of the solenoid connected to this ECU pin.

Also, is anybody have a a340e base tune to share.

Thanks

Here's a note I have from someone who used a GPIO board:

"Aside from the P-Channel FETs, the only other main difference from the standard 4L60e build is an additional low side switching output for the
accumulator backfill on the A340. This is a PWM controlled solenoid that controls the travel of the shift accumulators, allowing you to adjust
how hard or soft the trans shifts."

It appears higher duty cycle = softer shifts.

That info Matt posted is correct.

In my case my a340 uses a cable linked to the throttle linkage to control line pressuse mechanically. So I just connected the accumulator back pressure solenoid to the epc output. In your case you could just leave in disconnected which should default to the fastest shift speed.

I need to play with mine some more but to me the accumulator back pressure doesnt seem to make much differance. I have also shimed my accumulators for faster shifts.

Cheers,
Daniel.

Thanks for the info.

James, it would be nice if it was possible to have generic outputs and generic pwm outputs on the trans controller code

and also a page like the I/O pin list showing to help understand.

yes i have also submitted this to james previously for controlling other transmisisons

ideally configurable input digital pattern and input voltage threshold for the ford transmissions that use voltage / lever position
configurable outputs for solenoids
extra configurable outputs for other functions ie reverse lights etc

I've had a think about this and I do not plan to do it. While it might work for some easier applications, a number of the trans have additional parameters that could be difficult to generalise and would result in complex configuration settings.

This already exists.

So I'm in the planning stages of doing an MS2 based trans controller on an A340 for a friend/customer. Any and all advice or suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Anyone? We are converting the shift solenoids to ground driven so no problem there but how about the selector inputs? Do I need to do anything special there since they are active high?

Hi Jeff,

You will need to make up a circuit using diodes to combine the separate selector outputs to match the 3 inputs like the 4l60E. PM me an email address and when I get 5mins I will sketch the circuit for you.

If you change the solenoids to ground switch you shouldn't have to do anything different.

Cheers
