Lockup Wait Time(s)...

Post by litneon »

In the drop down note, it states: "Delay before starting lockup cycle".

Delay from what? I thought it meant that it would wait that amount of time from any condition that required the converter to be unlocked. That's the way it seemed to work with my last converter. Then lockup went out because the converter failed. Got that sorted, and now it locks instantly when all conditions are met. As soon as it shifts into a gear that is allowed to lock, it locks. So, if it locks in third, then it seems to shift into 4th locked. I don't like that. It didn't do it before that I was aware of. That being said, I currently have the lockup start duty at 100% with zero rise time to a 100% full duty.

I'd really like to have it wait a few seconds before engaging. I don't want to slip the clutch too much for fear of burning it up, but I'm not sure if that's likely.

The manual really doesn't address at all HOW to setup lockup properly.

The behaviour was changed because users told me it should stay locked during the shift.

Oh. It's really hard on the trans. I thought that's what race mode was for? I guess I'll turn off lockup in 3rd, but the instant lock in 4th is even hard.
Is there a version I can revert to? I was using lockup at lower speeds for the long distances that I have to cruise at 40 mph, but that makes the shift into 4th really aggressive. Although, again, I haven't tried a lower DC to engage it. How much slip is acceptable for the lockup clutch? I have the maximum TPS for lockup set at 25% so that it will stay locked at highway speeds (18-23% TPS), but even at 20% throttle, it's a decent mid level acceleration which results in the aggressive 3-4 shift.
Maybe the engaged during shift should be a selected choice outside of the Race Mode?

What about the delay? What is that delay time from? Or is it ignored because of the change you've made?

Here are a log and .msq for the trans controller. I've added a bit of tapered DC control to soften it a bit, but you can see that it doesn't wait the 5.0 seconds from anything (seemingly).

I will also note that in my log, I don't yet have the brake input hooked up. So the switching on and off of the lockup was me intentionally dropping the TPS below threshold for the purpose of checking engagement times.

I got a rough average of about a second between all conditions met and actual lockup even though the delay time is set to 5 seconds.

Looks like there was a typo preventing correct operation. I'll be bench testing shortly.
