Post by alex_nzl_Rv8 »

attachment=0]range rover transmission connections.jpg[/attachment]Hello, does anyone know of any notes about controlling the ZFHP24 gearboxes to an MS controller. I have some information about these gearboxes on paper it looks reasonable simple. would like to put a range rover ZF4HP24 into my defender v8. thanks.alex.

Not an answer to your question, but did you know the earlier 4hp fitted to the Range Rover had no electronic control?

H there, thanks for you interest. yes I, I have a defender with the 3.9V8 and ZF4HP22, which as you say is not electronically controlled. I am working on a project to fit a P38 range rover 4.6V8 and 4HP24(I have these on hand too) into the Defender, but wish to not use the Range Rover engine or transmission conroller (I might use the transmission controller if it "works" but need a ready to go plan B if it doesnt). So I am studying up the alternatives. I have here two megasquirt extra 1 V2.2 boards which I am preparing for the engine and ignition, and I think ive got most of the other bits I need (except coil transistors). The ZF4HP24gear box is stronger than the ZF4HP22, it also has lock up on gear 3 and 4 and being electronically contolled, it locks up in many more situations (I also have a discovery 2 which has the ZF4HP22E(electronic version of the older 22 and is much better than the mechanical gearbox) The Discovery 2 locks up the torque converter almost from idle if there is little engine load. The4HP22mech gearbox only locks up in 4th and only above 90KMhr. so some very good reasons for using the 4HP24(E) gearbox cheers :-) alex
