4l80e paddle shifting

Post by nathaninwa »

I'm looking into paddle shifting my tranny. Two questions. First is, seems obvious but if I wanted drive to be the max gear, I put the selector in the D position and the paddle buttons will down shift and upshift to the D postiton?

And what's with the horn reference in the manual? I see it in the TS bubbles too, wants a horn input and a horn output. What's it's purpose?

I'd be looking to just enable paddle shift, and use the up down feature

Yes, the selector needs to be in "D". Other spots would lock it out of higher gears.

Not sure about the horn buttons. Maybe James can chime in.

the horn is a means of using the stock slide ring in the column normally used for horn functions. you can put 2(or more) switches on the single circuit with different resitance values to create a voltage divider. and if x button has x resistance and xvoltage when pressed and y button has y resistance and y voltage when pressed and z has its values

then the input voltages on that circuit equal
x= upshift
y= downshift and finally
z = horn

Is that something that might require a 5volt pull-up on the micros input wire?

No. It's like a MAP sensor input, in that it's trying to read a o-5v signal. If you apply 5v to the pin, the signal gets overwhelmed and all the pin ever sees is 5v.

Question. I found a diagram here in another post. My output wire feeds a constant 2.5v. This that ok? Downshift feeds .8 volts and upshift it like 4.8 volts. I just was not sure if the constant 2.5 was ok
