Wired up EDIS but having probs, no spark

Post by JayPSC »

Wired up the system yesterday but not getting any spark so I've started testing the components one by one. Trying to test the VR sensor by connecting to a meter & cranking. Am I right in thinking I should be getting 5v from it? Tried 2 diff sensors & tried moving them closer but getting no voltage.

The standard Vr will put out millvolts at slow speeds, and an increasing voltage as the engine speeds up.

The polarity is critical, so if you have it hooked up one way and it doesn't work, reverse the leads on the VR and see if it starts.

i think you will find it will give about 1 volt AC on cranking not DC

If you reverse the VR wires and it still won't start, try starting it with the SAW wire unplugged. If it starts and idles, you'll know it's a problem on the MS end, at least.

Would a 25uf Tant capacitor be ok to use as the radio supression cap? Which side of the circuit would I put the +ve leg to?

Get the Ford part off a scrappy. Pretty much all petrol Mondeos, Escorts, Fiestas have them. It is the plastic block with a connector right beside the coil pack.

Someone from the UK will have to answer that, the suppression cap here in the States looks different. I imagine if you took those off an EDIS install, one or the other should work fine.

Around the Megasquirt forums usually no response means "Yes, that looks good, go ahead and try it and report back your results"

Does your coil have power?

I know I made the mistake on my first EDIS install of grounding the coil pack. The wiring diagram is a little confusing at first. There should be a wire from your coil connected to a +12 volt source. Once I did that it sparked away.

The component on the left is identical to the suppression capacitors I use on my car.

The one in the middle is probably the same. Don't wire up your mobile though, it won't work.
