024 style vs 025 style wheel decoder

Post by Keithg »

In the latest 029P release, the 025 style wheel decoder code allows the car to start almost as quickly as with 024 style. It is very acceptable. The difference is that the RPM spikes that were there in 024 are now gone. I have been driving it for 2 days and have not had even one stutter. The RPM trace in the logs are nice and smooth. I do not know if they are EMI related spikes that are smoothed by the 025 code or if it is somethging with the 024 style code, but the car drives much better with 025 style. I am currently running a V2.2 board with a hall sensor reading a 36-1 wheel. I am driving the ignition as low level outputs, so there should be no high current spikes in the MS box.

From what i've understood, James have used in cranking always the 24 decoder...
Seem a brillant idea! The better of both worlds...

hmm..

Tried the 025 again last night and it starts nicely, but it stutters and sputters and generally works VEEEEERY bad so i switched to the 024 version again.

Is there anyone running 60-2 with the 025 decoder working well ?

I posted a question a month or two back for feedback on whether people were using 024 or 025 style decoders and got next to nothing back.

024 style vs 025 style wheel decoder

Post by Peter Florance »

I've been running the 025 style for about a month. Still on 29L but seems to work ok.

I'm running 025o with 60-2 wheel, VR and direct coil control.
(ignition only). Just been running in the garage for now
but works fine so far.

Going over to 025p this weekend and will try some high rpm testing
(rpm 7000+) since the summer is (almost) here and my car loves the summer :)

I'm running 024 style.

For 025, I get some nasty misfires on my 12-1 wheel right around 5500 rpms, and I get backfires on crank, and just general hard starting.

024 style gives me perfect behavior.

The car idles almost perfect with 029o, but idles a bit rougher(sometimes it pops and small misfires) with 029p...Either code starts the same though. Using neon code.

Very odd.
There were two one line code changes in 029p and neither impact the Neon code section.

Ken - could I have run into your code overflow problem?

I have recently got my 4age blacktop running using information that I have found on the forums from muythaibxr's posts.
Thanks muythaibxr.

Also thanks to all involved in devoping such a great system!

I am using a 12-1 setup and 029q code. I find that the 025 gives me a miss at around 5500rpm as muythaibxr experienced, however if I change to 024 I get a pretty bad miss at around 2500 and the 5500 miss is gone!

The false trigger setting does not help nor does trimming R52 or R56.

Any suggestions on what I should do?
