Wheel decoder question

Post by Keithg »

I have a question about wheel decoder again. I am looking at making this dizzy wheel:

Cyl 1 is at top. It is for a V8. My goal is trigger return cranking and would like output possibilities of single coil or wasted spark. The targets are spaced so that I would have 60 degree trigger and 10 degree cranking (60-2*25). The concern is that the 'tooth spacing' would not be regular to achieve this. It would be 50/40 Crank Deg between targets. My intention is to run 'no missing' and '2nd wheel'. To do wasted spark or single spark output, I know I would have to add another 2nd trigger 180 deg from where it is right now on that smaller diameter.
My trigger,return pairs would be:
1,2
3,4
5,6
7,8

Anyone see any problems with this scheme? I am considering adding timing control to my 215/3.5L Buick by using MSnS-E as spark only for now and adding fuel later.

Comments/suggestions? I am looking at a dizzy wheel as I need the dizzy to drive the oil pump, so it needs to be there.

The existing 2nd trigger code does not care about the intermediate tooth spacing. (The missing tooth code certainly does.)

I mounted a standard 36-1 pressed wheel on the front of my Rover V8 (215ci) using the old style front pulley which may be similar to the original Buick design.
